General Discussion / Re: DVN Preview #5 - The Druid
« on: September 12, 2013, 07:57:21 PM »
A lot to digest with this mage, not sure how I feel about her just yet.  She seems cool, but there are so many components to her that it's hard to see how good she will be (plus we haven't seen all of her toys yet).  It looks like they are going to have to issue errata on a few cards though to work with her, someone already mentioned Tanglevine plus there is the Great Tree of Life which is not listed as a tree... Issuing those kinds of errata's are kind of messy and not good IMO because you don't want people to have to always be referring to a FAQ in order to play the game, but it would be kind of lame to NOT errata them too.

Not all of the spells that come in this set are new, so I'm wondering if they'll be including the updated versions of tanglevine et al.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Does Wizard work without mana drain effects?

I don't think I would play without the mana drain.

It not only gives you acceleration, slow or not, but certainly affects your opponent resolve.

General Discussion / Re: Druid vs Necro Spoilers
« on: August 23, 2013, 02:01:47 PM »
Me too.  I really hope the Necro is cool and effective because it'd be a shame if the Necro ends up being on the same power level as the Warlord.  Necro's and undead have always been one of my favorite themes in fantasy games, so I've been pumped for this expansion since I heard about it.  Bring on the spoilers!  :)

I'll be heart broken if the Necro isn't a force to be reckoned with. I have to assume that Sardonyx is intended for the Necro, and I have a hard time believing it won't be awesome.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Mana Leeches Against Control?
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:36:14 PM »
I've always felt that an attack against any of my creatures, and not myself, gains me momentum. Even if the leeches only attack a couple of times that's still a nice boost to your mana pool.

I like them. They're not the be all end all, but I still like what they bring to the table.

General Questions / Re: Charm and Hindering
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:21:21 PM »
This opened my eyes a bit. The fact that these things are true pretty significantly reduces the value of Charm in my mind.

If Charm didn't have those weaknesses it would either be far more expensive or very over-powered. It still forces your opponent to put their charmed creature in a defensive posture if you choose to address the enchantment that way. It is still SO effective regardless of loopholes.

OK, thanks a lot, good enough for me :)

Whatever it is, I hope that I can somehow put a hardcopy of it into the game box when it's done ;)

I dunno, it is a living document after all.

Rules Discussion / Re: Goblin Builder

Well, now Goblin Builders don't seem to suck so badly :) That'll teach me not to play the Warlord.

While I thought "no way that can be right" indeed even the list of cards here confirms only 1 copy of the staff.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Online spell book builder?
« on: August 02, 2013, 12:11:10 PM »
No offense to the efforts of Pixel Geek, but Card Game DB already had a working system in place.

I'm not aware of what went on with Cardgame DB or what happened to that project.

I have an alpha version of the new JavaScript based deck builder and will be adding images to it and begin testing on Tuesday.

I'd imagine it's a case of wanting that traffic on the AW site so not only are we building but discussing in the same place; and rightly so.

No offense to the efforts of Pixel Geek, but Card Game DB already had a working system in place. It would have been done. I understand the want to have that traffic here at the AW forums, but still we sit a year later without a decent means to create spell books other than PDF's found in the BGG forums.

I'm a patient guy. I love this game. I'm looking forward to the builder. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later.

Mages / Re: Necromancer and Druid Thoughts/Speculation
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:21:26 PM »
I'm VERY excited abou the Necro; I have been since I saw the picture of him so many moths ago.

I think that he will use a combination of conjurations and enchantments that only affect living creatures. I can see him making zones painful, embuing those that enter with negative status effects, damage and more. I also would think there will be conjurations and enchantments that boost non-living, more specifically undead; though I wonder if there will be some that are just non-living allowing him the chance to use other non undead non-living creatures to his advantage.

I'd also like to see an enchantment that grants you control of a creature that dies.

General Discussion / Re: List Your Favorite Mages
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:15:29 PM »
1. Warlord
2. Wizard
3. Forcemaster
4. Warlock
5. Beast Master
6. Priestess

I really LOVE the Warlord. I feel very adept at buying the time I need to get set up to the point where there's no stopping my freight train. Wizard is second simply because he's the anything mage, and I love the Voltaric Shield. FM is a beast, and while I might not always win I feel deadly the entire time and one slip on my opponent's part will result in defeat.

I've actually taken a shine to the Warlock. I'm not sure why. I guess I just do well with him and that's just about it =P

The Beast Master just seems to vulnerable to me to be fun. One AoE or some Sweep attacks devastate his creatures. As for the Priestess? I just don't find her fun, or the stategies I can think of for her to be exciting.

Stack attacks with conditions. Since she is more or less a solo warrior all her actions are precious. If you can steal away some of her options with stuns, slams, cripples, dazes or even weakness to lower her damage output it will be huge.

This is what I've seen so far. I think conditions are doubly effective against the FM.

We played our first game last night, and I was playing the FM.
- The Scimitar is AWESOME. At the very worst you make the Warlord waste time and mana dissolving it. It's an extra 4 dice OR a free melee defense.

Isn't the scimitars attack only 3 dice?

Great tips and report!

Yep, my memory was faulty. Thanks for the compliment as well :)

General Discussion / Re: Token Pack

We have shipped all the markers out to distributors and the last of them should have arrived there early last for domestic distributors. Retailers should have been able to get them by now. If you want I can contact the retailer and see where the trouble is. Just send me a private message.

Thank you for the direct support. I checked with the store again and Alliance still shows the tokens and spell books as preorders. In my experience this is all too common as even for LCG packs Alliance is a terrible source.

They have other distributors, and the one that had it was Georgia "something". In any case they had the tokens but the spell books were preorder. The latter I'm not worried about as I use after market books.

It bears reiterating: Alliance is awful. It's hard for me to believe that they were the union of The Armory and Chessex; I used to go to the Armory all the time when I was younger and they allowed walk ins.
