Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Druid PushBowTangle

Looks promising! I think I'll try something like that next time I play. :)

If you plan on staying in your zone, I would recommend [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ06]Eagleclaw Boots[/mwcard] in order to avoid being pushed through your own Bloodspine Walls. Occasional Nullification (as suggested by barriecritzer and Sand Goblin) might do the job as well.

I watched some unboxing videos, and it least those I came across I couldn't see any pre-FiF cards.

echephron, I agree that Barracks is probably the most important missing card, followed by... well, depends on one's strategy. ;) Anyway, without FvW, one deprives oneself of so many choices. Conquest of Kumanjaro might help a bit in terms of mid-size creatures (Bridge Troll and Dwarf Panzergarde), but it lacks the big guys (Thorg!).
On the other hand, the Warlord seems perfectly playable without CoK, i.e. with FvW and CoK only.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: How do YOU stop the early rush?
« on: June 26, 2014, 01:12:15 AM »
Just yesterday I tried the Pet Falcon rush mentioned above. Good stuff!
My opponent (turtling Priestess) had initiative on turn two and played a Bloodspine Wall (which didn't stop the Falcon, of course, but it stopped my Mage from running over and punch the Priestess). The Falcon did some decent damage and my opponent panicked so actually played Banish on it! 14 mana and 6 spellbook points on a creature worth 8 mana and 1 spellbook point.  8)
Since he was still without armour, I Force Pushed him through a Wall of Thorns twice and that was pretty much it.

After the game, he said he should've equipped some armour/defense instead of the wall, and I think I agree. Banish was a good idea, I think (although it was so expensive), but he didn't use the time to set up some defense.

In any case, early rushes can be extremely frightening if you go for a long-term strategy - and this is when people make mistakes.

Me too, Boocheck! How about a Warlord Week in the spellbook construction section? One spellbook per day for seven days, followed by a Warlock Week;D

Double (more or less) mirror matches might be interesting, e.g.

- Straywood and Priest vs. Johktari and Priestess
- one of the Warlords and one of the Warlocks together against the other Warlord and Warlock

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Armored Trolls
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:25:29 AM »
Yesterday, I tried this build against a Druid. It was quite tough since both mages were so hard to hurt, but eventually he conceded because he couldn't cope with my creatures for much longer.

I really like the idea of the build; I was only able to put one Armour token on each Troll (plus Divine Protection on one of them), but against non-Piercing plants it was enough. Supported by the Priestess and with Regenerate 3, these Trolls are so hard to kill if you cannot kill them in one round. Also, they hit sooo hard with Bear Strength.

In order to make this build work for me personally, I will add some more utility spells (another Force Push, Knockdown...).

P.S.: I totally wasted that Divine Intervention...

Oh yes! I run Knockdown in almost every spellbook (funny thing: whenever i do NOT, I find myself in a situation where I would kill for a copy ;) ). It's extremely handy and cheap for getting rid of guards, punching a flying creature... If you want to stay within the trained schools, another Quicksand might be a good choice.

Hey! Glad to see that someone picked up my idea. :)

I can only agree that the Minotaur needs to be protected at any cost. Wand of Healing sounds like a good idea because it helps to get rid of any kind of troubling markers. If you run into Forcemasters on a regular basis, Mind Shield is great as well (pre-emptive instead of getting rid of markers afterwards).

No Nullify and 1 Dispel? I know they are expensive, but still.

Galador should be a great choice for your basic idea. Ranged attack, chance to stun/daze, and you can have him lead a counter attack, especially if you throw in the Charge incantation.

Maybe one enchantment that can protect your defensive zone? Sacred Ground or Fortified Position? Or some defensive creature to protect your "archers" (Iron Golem, Bridge Troll, Dwarf Panzergarde [Intercept!], or maybe a Timber Wolf with Bull Endurance/Regrowth/Healing Charm)

As for attack spells: I would add at least one Hurl Boulder - it can be so valuable as a finisher. For utility and against flyers, a Jet Stream might also be nice.

I would also be in favour of undead soldier build. Second favourite option: Bridge Troll brawlin' buddies!

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Regarding card binder sleeves

Same here: Ultra Pro Matte. They look great (mostly - my friend plays a Warlock, but uses bilious green sleeves; didn't really go together well ;) ) and the rough back feels great, and they fit perfectly.

Whereas mine was random wishing that Gurmash might benefit from Horn of Gothos. Coincidences!  ;)

Gurmash certainly looks promising. As others have already mentioned, much will depend on synergy with other cards (the Battle Orders have been mentioned; it would also be interesting whether Gurmash can "use" the Warlord's Horn of Gothos for his Battle Orders or if his usage of them will be restricted to his zone).

Spellbook Design and Construction / Spellbook Organisation
« on: March 03, 2014, 03:57:38 AM »
Two threads made me think about spellbooks in quite specific terms: the first one ist the one about modular spellbooks (http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13736.0), the second one is the thread about general usage of spellbooks vs. decs/stacks (http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13776.0).

Here is a related question I'd like to throw at you: how do you guys organise your spellbooks?

The typical thing seems to be to simply organise the spells according to their categories: equipment, conjurations etc. However, I think there could be more to that. Do you put the cards for your open strategy on one page? Do you put "debuff" and "buff" enchantments on separate pages? Do you order your spells according to mana cost? Do you scatter them wildly so your opponent cannot tell whether you are preparing an attack spell or a piece of equipment?

Looking forward to your comments!

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: The Chargeotaur (Warlord)
« on: March 03, 2014, 03:45:42 AM »
Oh, absolutely. Honestly speaking, this build is only my personal method in order to deal with all my anticipation concerning FiF. Sooo psyched!

Thinking of the build now, one might also build a poor man's version (better: a version with officially released cards only) by replacing the Minotaurs with two Highland Unicorns. Or even better: make a Beastmaster build with two Unicorns, a handful of Bobcats, a Mage Wand (for the Charge incantation) and Rajan's Fury. :strolling back to his card storage, mumbling busily:
