Winter War - January 27 in Champaign Illinois

Ok I have confirmation from VictorE and my buddy Jon.  So we have three different spots including my own to host people to spend the night.  So we should have enough space for people coming in from out of town.

I have the 26th off and am planning on making it. can we register on arrival? how much is it?

The weekend pass was $15... $10 for a single day.

The events I got into were on the order of $2 for a four-hour slot.

The Mage Wars event was $4 and set to take eight hours, starting Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Yea you guys can register at the event.   

there is plenty of space still available.

 I think we have 8 players so far counting those here who have not registered for the event yet that I know of.  The STL crew have not officially signed up yet but I do have word we have Ryan and others planning on attending.  So our count most likely will Rise to 10-12 player count.  Plenty for a good fun Mage Wars tourney.

I am wondering what rules will be in place for determining victory and finishing order, and whether any special rules exist for spell selection (promos, banned cards, etc.).

I need to finalize my book....

Hey I will let VictorE know and confirm and add to what I know about the details of Winter War Tournament

4 matches per person with random system to pair people up.

One book per person 120 Sbp , all sets allowed, current AW errata on cards, no promos allowed,  no banned cards, no substitutes

point wise going with the standard point system nothing new. 


-Full Victory: You killed the enemy mage. Simple as that. First mage to dies loses.
-Modified Victory: If time runs out and both mages are alive then the mage with the most life left wins.
-Draw: If time runs out and both mages have equal life remaining then a draw occurs. This is rare.
-Lose: If you mage dies or time runs out and you have less life then you lost.


Im looking forward to the event and getting to play a full day of MW with players around the midwest!...
and maybe NC?

Confirming Farkas.

Time is 9a.m. - 1p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. We aren't supposed to play during the lunch time and auction.

Also, I will not know until the day of if we are allowed to keep going after 7p.m.. 8 hours is the longest allotment they give per game, but the conference keeps going until midnight I think.

Plan is minimum of 4 games. If we get started with games by 9:30 -10, we can get 2-3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, which would allow a 4 game random matchup round robin and a round of final matches based on performance. I did not receive confirmation on when the doors actually open. The games are supposed to start at 9:00, so I'm assuming they open before that, but no one answered my question.  I doubt we will start right at 9 since many are traveling to get there. We will determine match-ups randomly the day of based on number of registrants. If we have room, based on how many players sign up, I will try to have a table set up for anyone that wants to just try out the game, with some apprentice spell books built, but if I do that, I will probably have to take a loss on whatever game I'm in so that I can help any beginners.

I'll check back in a day or two if I find out more.

Alright in addition to numerous prizes for players participating, I have designed and made a customized a trophy for the 1st place Winner of Winter War Mage Wars Tournament WWMW2018.  Still have to put finishing touches on.  good luck to all participants.  Looking forward to The War.

I will not there till tomorrow morning at 8.   STL group should be here tomorrow around 10.   I'm not sure if Jon is there I will find out.  as far as I know everyone else will be here tomorrow morning for the tournament.
