No Armour in War School
« on: March 25, 2013, 08:58:45 AM »
I was constructing a Warlord book last night, and when it came to selecting an armour set I realised that the War School has NO ARMOUR to choose from.  Surely this is an oversight?  Ok, there are still a couple of schools without an armour set specific to them, but this is the WAR SCHOOL!! :)

Assuming it's coming, any speculation on what it might do?  Perhaps it will have no effect dice modifier but be a straight +3 armour.  Or perhaps it will have a tabard on it too giving it a 'Standard Bearer'-like effect (which would be brilliant).

Boots and gloves?
Where does my greatest enemy lie?
It has been around since the dawn of time,
it follows your loved ones as well as mine,
takes the form of a mountain as well as a flower,
it cannot be outrun by the greatest of power.

Maybe look to the Warlord card? Often there's things in the pictures that appear in the game.

Perhaps a set of War Armour that gives a better bonus as you say or gives you a defence too, hell the Forcemaster has a defence built in so why not a really good set of armour?

I agree!!  The Warlord should be STACKED with armor!
He already has the worst weapon in the game...  why no love for the Warlord?

I suppose he's more of a "commander" than a fighter...  It would still be cool to see his armor grant defensive bonuses to adjacent zones! (his charisma supports troop morale!)

With the exception of the Forcemage, I love all the unique concepts and differences each mage can bring to the table to make interesting and fun games!

@Sausageman

Totally agree. The Warlord should have better armor, as well as a better melee weapon. His war hammer is really pathetic.

However, I still like the Warlord a lot. I love how he has the dirt cheap trash troops, the heavy hitters, and then all sorts of creatures in between. He even has some cool ranged units. Horn of Gothos is really dynamic and useful.

This is the problem.  Both of these take up hand slots, but the sledge takes up TWO hands...  Why isn't the horn on a belt slot, or a neck slot - conceptually this could work and would make the sledge a lot more likely to be used.
Course, I still don't rate it especially highly...

Boots and gloves?

Just saw this too.  Now, don't get me wrong, I really like the leather boots and gloves, but go and take a look at the Warlords picture.  Don't worry, I'll wait.

Back?  Ok.  Those boots look like they go WAY beyond the Novice Leather Boots, and his hand wraps look more like a Gauntlets of Might hand wrap sort of deal.

Where's the decent armour?  :)

I know! I was just being a nerd. They are war school, so you cant say Im wrong. :P The warlord in all honesty was a huge let down in equipment. The forcemaster got better equipment then the warlord!

This gives AW the opportunity to make more war school armor cards in the future. The individual card count in the expansion was pretty low for a 216 card set. I would guess that non armor cards were more likely to make the cut since there were already armor options available.

The Warlord's default ability card includes two abilities designed for buffing an army, and zero abilities for solo combat. They probably designed him this way because the Forcemaster is already a strict solo-combat specialist and they didn't want to release an expansion with two solo-capable Mages.

Maybe in the future when they start releasing alternate ability card expansions, there will be a beatdown focused variety of Warlord. He could use Helm of Command + Battle Fury to melee twice every round, which is sweet.

I could certainly imagine an expansion with super powerful "War School Only" melee equipment like:
Ring of Precision (+Unavoidable)
Gauntlets of Parrying (+1 Armor, 7+ Melee Defense 1x)
Adamantine Plate Armor (+3 Armor, Tough -1, Lightning +2)
Belt of Giant Strength (+1 Melee)
Stonewall Treads (+1 Armor, Immovable)

I don't see what the big deal is when there is plenty of other armors to choose from, and you can round out things with the novice armors.  Honestly, though, you shouldn't be casting much individual armor anyway.  Fortified Position and Stormdrake Plate or whatever already give you 4 armor.  Add in a creature to guard and that's more than enough.

I wouldn't say zero solo abilities. He has got +1 melee.... :)

I think it is as much about the thematic feel of playing a heavily armored warlord as it is about the advantage gained from being heavily armored in game.

I think in my opinion the Warlord's helmet is where the gold is (best equipment).. No other mage has a soul bound helmet in game.

Forget about the armor, you know how many incantation command spells are out there?
This helmet is epic!!! It makes the Warlord (or any of his creature) hit twice (battlefury) or +2 Melee or (Unvoidable) or Elusive and others depending on your Incantation - command spell.

The HELMET of the Warlord is where the love is..

If you need armor you can just get any of his +2 command enchantment + Leather boots + Leather gloves + any other armor that gives +2 armor.

Quoted for truth man.
This is completely where I'm coming from. I know I *can* suit him up in existing armour, but a) he should have his own, cheaper (to put in your spell book) set and b) he's wearing some in the picture, I want him to look like that with in game equipment :)
In fact, I seem to remember one of the powers that be saying 'just look at the character picture for clues as to what equipment they're getting'. The Warlords picture is around 30% armoured boots, want to equip them :)
