Nulify&seeking dispel
« on: January 15, 2013, 06:54:50 AM »
if i cast nulify on my mage and my oponent cast seeking dispel on me my nulify will be discarded.
is there any way to counter seeking dispel&protect my enchantments?

I don't have my cards in front of me, but I believe Seeking Dispel specifically targets a hidden enchantment, not the bearer of the enchant.  Thus, Nullify does no good in this case.  The same weakness of Nullify can't save an exposed enchant from Dispel, for example.

Enchantments are very powerful in Mage Wars, which is why I suspect they are so vulnerable to removal.

Wow never noticed this before. I find it an odd design choice to have enchantments suffer this vulnerability but not have equipment suffer from it.

why do you say that nullify cant save an exposed enchant from dispel?
lets say for example that i have cast bear strength on my creture, then i cast nuliffy on that creture and pay the 2 mana. then the other mage cast dispel magic on my creture bear strength enchant, i pay the extre 2 mana to activate my nullify and cancel his dispel.
no?

When this creature is targeted by an incantation or enchantment spell controlled by an opponent, you must reveal Nullify during the Counter Spell Step. That spell is countered. Then, destroy Nullify.

Target: Revealed Enchantment
Target: Hidden Enchantment

both dispels dont target the creature they target the enchantment. nullify only works on incantations and enchantments targeting the creature.

Just wanted to throw in a quick design note: Enchantments are fragile, and they are fairly easy to destroy.  Equipment is a little more difficult.

Spells which destroy equipment target the Mage instead (so Nullify does work in this case), and these spells usually are only range 1.  This was intentional, making equipment a little more durable than enchantments.

We had exactly that situation when I and a friend of mine played today. I had a hidden Bear Strength and Nullify attached to my beastmaster. He cast a Seeking Dispel and I activated Nullify to counter it and protect that Bear Strength. I think I have to take a closer look on the spell targets in the future...
