Shouldn't Initiative Be Rolled After Books Are Decided?
« on: January 30, 2018, 06:43:35 PM »
So on OCTGN, initiative is rolled before books are decided upon.
In a face to face game competitive though, wouldn't the books be revealed first and then the initiative is rolled?
I can see this coming up in ADMW where depending on who gets initiative, you may choose book A or B.
Maybe we should switch these steps around?
The Phoenix shall rise.

In a live tournament you don't get to choose from all of your books. You bring one. I am okay with allowing the winner of initiative to commit to their initiative choice after seeing the enemy mage. As long as it's clear to both players.

OCTGN is not following the rulebook on this one.

It is clearly stated in the Setup rules on p5 of the rulebook that mages are chosen before the initiative is rolled.

You know you can just change it manually right? If the winner of the initiative roll changes their mind after mages are revealed, they can just take control of the initiative marker, hover over it, hold down control and press f to flip it to other color. It will still automatically change again at the next initiative phase.

I am Sailor Vulcan! Champion of justice and reason! And yes, I am already aware my uniform is considered flashy, unprofessional, and borderline sexually provocative for my species by most intelligent lifeforms. I did not choose this outfit. Shut up.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.  As long as the other player knows it has happened and they are in agreement.  Just tell them you've changed your mind (BEFORE passing that first planning phase, please) and then flip the marker.
