The Creepy Crawly Forest Druid
« on: December 08, 2017, 04:36:46 PM »
Snakes and Spiders and area control.

Basic idea is to use lots of restrained effects to catch the opponent's creatures and take advantage of the spiders' taint and eggs.

A couple of straywood scouts because they should frankly be in every deck as a re-directable Marked for Death.

Kralathor is there only for the occasional encounter with a Necromancer or perhaps for flyer-heavy builds.

Basilisk is out of school but the cripple ranged effect is a very nice one for this strategy.

I like it! I think you are woefully short on attack spells but them, that's always my opinion.
Couple questions. What's the cheetah speed for?
I notice you've got no positional spells. No pushes, ports or minors. Not that you always need them evry game but without them you are a bit open to having your lashers ported where you don't want them.
With the abundance of restricted you've got, teleport is going to be the obvious choice, so maybe an astral anchor would help?
And with no way to reuse the few destruction spells you've got you might be in trouble with port wands or the like.

Just a few thoughts, i like it though!

A Druid Spellbook
built by http://www.spellbookbuilder.com

Total cost: 114 pts

--- Equipment ---
1 Chitin Armor
1 Druid's Leaf Ring
1 Eagleclaw Boots
1 Sunfire Amulet
1 Vinewhip Staff
1 Waterfall Cloak
1 Wychwood Ironvine

--- Conjuration ---
1 Corrosive Orchid
2 Mana Flower
1 Seedling Pod
3 Stranglevine
1 Swamp
6 Tanglevine
1 Vine Tree
4 Wall of Thorns

--- Creature ---
2 Darkfenne Asp / It is cheap and I like what they bring.
1 Fellella, Pixie Familiar
2 Giant Wolf Spider
2 Ichthellid
1 Stonegaze Basilisk
2 Straywood Scout
1 Tataree
2 Thornlasher
2 Thunderift Falcon
2 Vine Snapper

--- Enchantment ---
1 Barkskin
2 Cheetah Speed
1 Decoy
1 Demonic Bloodlust
1 Falcon Precision
1 Force Crush
2 Gator Toughness
2 Nullify
1 Wolf Fury

--- Incantation ---
6 Burst of Thorns
2 Crumble
2 Dispel
2 Minor Heal
1 Seeking Dispel

--- Attack ---
2 Surging Wave

I like the Spiders but their damage output is really on the low end.  Not really a lot of damage built into this book at first glance and the damage you have is kinda squishy.

Without a hard attack spell you might run afoul of some conjurations.

-1 Druid Leaf Ring / You have 5 spells that qualify for this discount and they should all be cast from the Vine Tree
-1 Wychwood Ironvine / I prefer Regrowth Belt
-2 Thornwalls / You have no way to push people through them so running 4 might not help you very much
-2 Strangle Vine / Add another Corrosive Orchid
-1 Seedling Pod
-8 Ichthellid x2 / I might go with a Gorgon Archer here or two of the promo Gorgon Archers??  For the Weaks which match well with the Asp
-1 Scout / Add one more Tartree to feed to Kralathor 3:D
-2 Cheetah Speed x2 / What is gonig to use them?
-2 Demonic Bloodlust / You can have 2 Bear Strength for one Bloodlust
-1 Crumble

21 SBP to go...
1 Tataree

20 SBP to go...
1 Regrowth Belt

19 SBP to go...
2 Bear Strength and 2 Rhino Hides

15 SBP to go...
2 Dissolve

13 SBP to go...
1 Gorgon Archer

5 SBP to go...
1 Corrosive Orchid

3 SBP to go...
1 Divine Might / Ethereal is a PAIN!

1 SBP to go...
1 Rust

Final Results look something like this

Total cost: 120 pts

--- Equipment ---
1 Chitin Armor
1 Eagleclaw Boots
1 Regrowth Belt
1 Sunfire Amulet
1 Vinewhip Staff
1 Waterfall Cloak

--- Conjuration ---
2 Corrosive Orchid
2 Mana Flower
2 Stranglevine
1 Swamp
6 Tanglevine
1 Vine Tree
2 Wall of Thorns

--- Creature ---
2 Darkfenne Asp
1 Fellella, Pixie Familiar
2 Giant Wolf Spider
1 Gorgon Archer
1 Kralathor, The Devourer
1 Stonegaze Basilisk
1 Straywood Scout
2 Tataree / Eat me Kralathor!
2 Thornlasher
2 Thunderift Falcon
2 Vine Snapper

--- Enchantment ---
1 Barkskin
2 Bear Strength
1 Decoy
1 Divine Might
1 Falcon Precision
1 Force Crush
2 Gator Toughness
2 Nullify
2 Rhino Hide
1 Rust

1 Wolf Fury

--- Incantation ---
6 Burst of Thorns
1 Crumble
2 Dispel
2 Dissolve
2 Minor Heal
1 Seeking Dispel

--- Attack ---
2 Surging Wave

Gator Toughness and Rhino Hides can be used on yourself or mabye swap one out for a regrowth.

Your out of school creatures are cheap and can be cast along side of your plant creatures which the vine tree is casting so you shouldn't lose a ton of momentum.

Now I would take out the Stonegaze Basilisk for an Iron Golem but that doesn't fit the theme well.  So I left it in.

I'd like to sneak in a Rain Cloud, but that is the only other thing I'd really want :D.

Take two of the book.

Actions will be the main issue. A lot of creatures that all want a full round cast to deploy. Possibly too many. The snakes and birds might not get a lot of play for this reason.

Basic plan remains the same: catch the opponent in the garden and taint/egg their creatures. Vines to hinder the enemy and enable the druid to move freely away from dangers.

Start probably looks like this:

Turn one: standard vine tree/seedling pod start.
Turn two: start spreading the vines, spider/flower.
Turn three: amulet/flower

As a Druid (especially with fragile creatures you want to keep alive) I'd recommend finding room for Meredea's Blessing.

I really love seeing books like this.

Blows my mind. Ichetellids, Basilisk and Spiders.

I don´t think starting with a spider is the best idea. I would go with a few "distractions" first - Thunderift Falcon or maybe add an Emerald Tegu, which fits the theme :)

I think that the Giant Wolf Spider should be behind your other creatures not in the frontline.

I agree with biblo, just some other threats out first and then bring out the spider.
The Phoenix shall rise.

One thing about the druid I am picking up on regarding his ring for spell discounts is you have to hard cast the plants.  To really get advantage with it you have to hardcast your summons or conjurations, but most are around the 7 to 6 mana range so you can grow a garden pretty quickly if you manage your mana right.

No BloodspineWalls? (Incredible Thornlasher/ForcePush/Jetstream Combo)

No ForcePush or Jetstream?

Lets say you have Initiative and the Vine Tree deploys the Bloodspine for you:

a) Activate Thornlasher (pray for a Snatch), pull them thru BloodspineWall (6 dice + Bleed%)
b) Quickcast Jetstream (pray for a Push), push them back thru the same BloodspineWall (5 dice + 2nd Bleed%)

11 dice with (2) Bleed Potential.

Thanks, werner.

that's always a powerful combo, but basically it is not here because it does not really fit with the theme of this book, which is about utilising the restrained trait.

-These low cost creature will also help if they can actually get the mana drain off once or twice.  5 mana for 1 armor / 6 health is actually hard to 1 shot on even 4 dice.

[mwcard=DNA01]3 x Acid Ball[/mwcard]

I like the idea the trick I think will be keeping your spiders alive and getting out damage for big targets.
Rust and Acid ball will help with higher armor creatures and you still have access to corrosive orchids.
