Viking-Con 2016
« on: September 02, 2016, 10:52:00 AM »
From Friday evening 14 Oktober - Sunday evening 16 Oktober

Copenhagen, Tårnby close to the airport.

Main event Saturday from 10:00 - 18:30

Tournament is free but the con is not

140 DKR for Saturday only (~20$)

I just paid 610 DKR (~100$) for friday-sunday including food & drink for the whole con.

Accomodation is free at the school. Bring a sleeping bag (but dont sleep - much play mage wars with us)

Con is the oldest and biggest in Denmark. Normally around 800 people for the whole con.
Same time as Essen, but you get a chance to actually play Mage Wars here.

Paladin vs Siren will be legal.

There will be 70 spellbooks you can borrow and get a chance to win 1 of those :)

Everything pretty much gonna be legal, except FROST.

Rules and format will be decided when we see actual turn up.

Hope to get new players, so first rounds might be slow.

Will update later if anyone is interested gotta run :)

Congratulations to the Viking-Con 2016 Champion Alexander Elberg!

Alexander Elberg is one of our strongest players in Copenhagen, learning Mage Wars at Viking-Con 2015.

In the final he played a Dwarf Warlord (with 1 Balista) vs my Druid (a Master-Mystery clone)
Things went pretty well for the Druid, putting a few deadly curses on the warlord early.

Warlord came back killing the tree, putting some damage on the Druid and one shooting Felella with the Balista.
Dwarf got Stranglevine and was down to 1 life with Mage Bane and Ghoul Rot.
He did kill the Druid with a Hurl Boulder (and himself)

So we played a rematch this time with Alexander playing Priestess vs a Siren (big fish)
Alexander crushed his opponent in the 2 final (me) A well placed Temple of Light stunning/dazing the Sirens and the better economy proved to be to mush for the Siren.

Overall we had 12 people entering the even, with Keechejn being judge and me being tutor for the 2 newbies.
Other than that we had old friends comming by for 1 to 3 games, and 1 of the newbies returned with a friend who also got to play a few games.

Most people played 4 to 5 games - after the main event 6 of us played a 3x2 free for all Domination game without Domination cards.

No non-danes this year :(

Hope to be able to pull some people away from Essen but its tuff.

Who knows. This year we got our first child, so time is rare. But Copenhagen isn't that far from Hamburg! Maybe next year then

My plan for previous week was to get to Essen on Wednesday and spend weekend in Copenhagen. Unfortunately I got sick.
What's nice is that Warlord almost beat Druid played by Gencon champion.

What we must all remember is no matter the game we were all newbies at one point.

Hey, congrats to Alexander :)
Sorry that I couldn't make it. Essen was not the reason though ...

What promos besides Ballista did Alexander use? What cards from PvS?

1 Balista
1 Vorpal Blade
from PvS
1 Champions Gauntlet
1 Steadfast Boots
1+ Red Knight (Helm?)

I think he has a Steep Hill as well.

He never did cast much equipment other than armor. He got pinned down by tanglevines and then stranglevine. Had Agony, Ghoul Rot and Mage Bane most of the game.

He opened with Barracks and Outpost then turn 2 Balista. He did play an outpost next to the tree and managed to shot down Felella early.

I think he got out 2 Goblin Grunts, 2 Orc Butchers, Thorg, Red Knight, Goblin Slinger, Dwarf Crossbowman and Grimson.

I only casted Felella and a Vine Snapper. Curses and Burst of Thorns did all my damage on him.

I would say i almost won the first final though, not the other way around.
In the rematch he had me the whole match.
