Ziggy Necro (wip)
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:45:34 PM »
So this is still a very experimental build and is in no way finished.  I have had a few matches with this and the win loss is about the same so far.  The idea is to, as the title suggests, get the Ziggurat of Undeath out and turn your opponents creatures into zombos to feed your swarm.

so far, its roughly:

t1: crystal, battleforge
t2: moonglow (deploy), hawkeye (facedown), and either brace yourself or decoy
t3: bow (deploy), graveyard, and shoot bow
t4: death ring (deploy), venemous zombie (deploy), reveal hawkeye and shoot
I have up to turn 7 layed out how I want it ideally to go but that is never going to happen...

from then on its deploy armor and zombies and shoot with the bow.  the graveyard is not very stable at all so the libro is in there as a back up for whenever that is destroyed.  morning star is there if i need to get right up in the other mage's face or have to deal with pesky defenses.  Ziggurat of Undeath gets dropped right before the first enemy is about to die. I use the bow for full  actions instead of the meditation amulet because I would rather spend actions being aggressive with the bow instead of gaining 3 mana - also if the creature is destroyed then more mana for the graveyard :)

piercing strike is useful if a zombie is about to attack a creature with a defense.  nullifies are for the enemy, mainly for purify because those suck ass for a necromancer :(

if the opponent seems to be running no creatures then I will just go as planned, not drop the ziggurat and try to swarm

the ziggurat and graveyard seem to combo together well since you get mana equal to the first destroyed creatures level on it and then get to summon that creature with the ziggurat - that the idea anyway.

But let me know what you guys think and feel free to try it, experiment and see how you get it to work.  I will still be play testing it when I can.

Huh an archer Necromancer, that's an interesting take. Ok so overall this looks pretty solid. I like to have a Tanglevine or maybe two in a zombie book cause it holds opponents still for zombies when you don't want to full action Zombie Frenzy but I do see an Enfeeble so that evens it some. I see the one weakness you see in a lot of Necromancer books and that's no way to really heal, a Regrowth Belt or even Wychwood Ironvine might save you some trouble in a late game. But for the most part I'm a fan.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to even toying with academy cards in this book yet.  the ironvine and the novice heal spell are probably going to make the final cut.

Nice idea to take over an enemy swarm like that!

What I think for first impression is that this works perfect against a beastmaster swarm and creatureheavy books with living creatures.
Also I see it working against (living) buddy builds.

The most problematic enemy would be another Necromancer, I guess. Or maybe a warlord with a skeleton army.

Also: Can you stand against a rush? Can you continue your plan with some heavyhitter of any kind in your face round 2 or 3?
I only see 1 hauberk. If that's gone you only have 2 leather armor left. Maybe you need a backup?

The rest seems solid. Nice work!

yeah, another necromancer would definitely be one to give me a hard time.  I haven't had the opportunity to play one yet so I'm not sure how it would play out, especially against skeletal archers.  :-\ the resilient trait is nice and should keep the zombies alive for as long as they need to...should.  It would come down to who can swarm the fastest, I think, since his tricks would be just as ineffective on me as mine on him. A skeletal warlord - not sure about that one, though.

for a buddy build, if I can take out one of the buddies then that is what rise again is for.  Take out the buddy, bring him to my army, then attack.  If I can do that then taking out another heavy hitter shouldn't be a problem.

with a rush on turn 2 or 3, I'm probably screwed to be honest.  I would try to get out morning star, libro, and brace yourself as fast as possible then go at him. This is definitely an area for this book to improve.

Like I said, the book is in no way finished and still has a lot of work - still haven't looked at academy cards yet for the book and the rush situation is still a threat..

I like to have a Tanglevine or maybe two in a zombie book cause it holds opponents still for zombies when you don't want to full action Zombie Frenzy but I do see an Enfeeble so that evens it some.

This was an option I was considering but it ultimately came down to they can't teleport out of an enfeeble and they waste a dispel on it which is one less spell for another curse - that's my take anyway

Can I suggest the wispwillow amulet instead of the moonglow? It will not slow you down as much. And maybe a second one for when the first one dies out.

When in doubt kill it with fire? I never doubt and crush them right away.

Yeah. Thats a great idea.  Academy cards have not made their way into this book yet but there are def going to be some adjustments made when i can get around to doing that. Im really excited to add those cards in! Thanks for the suggestion, though. That one probably would not have caught my attention.

Casting 2 Wispwillow amulets uses 2 actions and 6 mana, lasting only 12 turns. A Moonglow amulet uses 1 action, 6 mana and lasts infinite turns. Not saying it is a wrong move for some books, just it is action inefficient.
