Mage Wars Monday Episode #24 - The World/Lore of Etheria
« on: April 06, 2015, 06:01:38 AM »
Join Rick, Tox and Aaron in this episode of Mage Wars Monday as we get a history lesson about Etheria!

Take a listen -->HERE<--

Key Points

Demon Wars
The Demonic Invasion

Basically a long time ago, the Demons came from Infernia and took over Etheria. Pellia was the capital of the Demonic Empire. Eventually the people of Etheria rose up to fight against them. Westlock first to rise up against them, Ivarium was 2nd. They eventually pushed back the demons and regained control over Etheria. Now there are a bunch of different "provinces" or "countries" that make up the continent.

Westlock/Ivarium/Pellia
In the present day, Westlock has a King and Ivarium has an Empress. Neither are Mages. Ivarium feels like they are owed more after helping overthrown the Demons. They, and other nations, are jealous of Westlock's wealth and prosperity. Victoria is the capital of Westlock and is a very wealthy city. It has the most grand arena. Ivarium is much larger than Westlock and have a very powerful army. In the OP, Ivarium starts taking over parts of Pellia, which is sandwiched between Westlock and Ivarium. The Forcemaster from OP (who is from Pellia) agrees to help with the problem of the Bloodwave if she in return is given help dealing with the nation of Ivarium taking over her country.

Sortiledge
To the West of Westlock is Sortiledge. They are mostly run by a council who values ability of magic the most. They don't care about family histories, etc. If you are good with magic and can prove yourselves, that is most important. This nation was founded by Elves and is known for their "big white spires". In the past, they have tried to bend nature with magic, which is how the Darkfenne Hydra and other odd creatures were created. Many Wizards are searching for Voltari, an alternate plane of existence where the source of all mana comes from. The nation of Sortiledge likes to prove they are the best, so they have Mages who chose to duel in the arena all the time. Laddinfance is a Wizard like this. He is the Primus (First) of the White Spires. I don't know if that is the council that runs Sortiledge or something else but it sounds important :P

Bloodwave
Northwest of Sortiledge is a sea, across that is the territory of the Bloodwave. The Bloodwave has all sorts of creatures like Goblins, Orcs, Minotaurs, etc. In OP, Trokoth of the Bloodwave has brought all the clans together and united them to Plan to attack Westlock. The BLoodwave hasn't been united in a long time but they can be extremely dangerous when they are. This is why Laddinfance and Malathia the Forcemaster went to try to take out Trokoth and "cut off the head of the snake".

Straywood
Straywood was also founded by Elves. It's kinda in between the nations we have already talked about. The Druids are from a forest on the East edge of Straywood, called Wichwood. The Beastmasters send emissaries to the Arena.

Arraxian Crown
The Arraxian Crown is a secret organization in society. People know it exists but nobody really knows who is part of it. The Warlocks are allowed to partake in the Mage Wars. Mages are protected when going to and from the Arena when doing battle which is why the other people don't just kill them for being evil and all that. Not that that hasn't happened occasionally (I would imagine it has), but they are protected by law.

Battles in the Arena are both sport-like and political. For common folk, it is simply sport. But for important figures like Kings, rulers, and other high-ranking members of the other nations, it is quite political as well.

Non Lore
The first Mage Wars novel, Mage Wars:Nature of the Beast is to be released in April.

PvS is still scheduled for this year. It was announced too early, which is why it is taking so long.

Is that April date for the novel a confirmed street date or tentative date?

Also, is there any way to get that link to the first two chapters :P

Those are fantastic questions for Scott. I'll see if I can't find out for you.

I believe I said that is how the Darkfenne Hydra was created. The Darkfenne is the giant swamp. Just throwing that out there. Granted I may have rambled a bit too.

Yes, right now, Dynamite Entertainment has told us April 22nd is the release date.  I'll work on if we can get the link for the first two chapters still.  That was a special Gen Con thing we did, but I'll see if Dynamite still has it live and we can share it.  More to come....

My apologies! I'll change it when I clean up the post a bit. I thought I had read in OP 3 Unholy Tides that the Darkfenne itself was a result of the Wizards' experiments but I could be mistaken.
