Mage Wars events - Gen Con Indy 2015
« on: April 05, 2015, 12:32:57 PM »
I really would like to get into a team game somewhere, and was hoping that there would be a team game at GenCon this year (in addition to the normal tournament). Is this a possibility?

Thanks!

We're actually today working on the tournament structure for Mage Wars at Gen Con.  We haven't received much feedback that players want a multiplayer tournament or structured event, but if there is a high enough demand that people can comment here in the next few days, we are happy to look into it.

Variant organized play? Yes! Please!

This is an especially good time for 2v2 organized play to begin because of the release of Astral Anchor (that's in battlegrounds, right?).

The main issue I imagine with team play will be matching teammates together.

Also, since spellbooks will probably have to use unified construction rules, to prevent confusion or conflicts over spellbook design between teammates, each team would be well-advised to designate one member to be the main spellbook designer of the team.
This will also make it easier for teams whose members live far away from each other. If only one member brings both the spellbooks, then there's only one chance for someone on the team to forget a spellbook or include the wrong number of copies of certain cards, not two chances. The other player should bring a backup pair of spellbooks, though, just in case.

I'm good with plain old Mage Wars....

Not really interested in Team play - unless it's blind draw, that would make it interesting.

What's blind draw? You mean randomly assigned spellbooks or randomly assigned teammates...?

Agreed... I hate the idea of trying to coordinate spell books between team members. Unique / Epic / whatever would be for each member (though only one copy in play at a time between teammates or at all depending).
