Adramelech's Wife
« on: October 30, 2014, 10:22:03 AM »
Hey!

So here is my current build for my Adramelech Warlock. It uses two strategies depending on what my opponent does.

I am having some problems deciding on a proper opening. I like to use Pentagram with Harmonize but I find it is a very committed play. I have been thinking of opening with Mana Crystal / Battle Forge.

T1 Mana Crystal/ Battle Forge - The idea of this opening is to see how the opponent opens and react appropriately. The Battle Forge is meant to be used during the last quick cast phase. If I think my opponent rushes then I will only cast a Mana Crystal and turn 2 cast Adramelech. If my opponent is more defensive then Battle Forge/ Mana Crystal are a great opener for economy.

My original thoughts was that Wildfire Imps were going to be better then Firebrand Imps. But I've been thinking that the combo with Bloodfire helm works better. Also the +1 to fire attacks from the Warlock is better for the firebrand since you have a higher chance to burn. I would rather have a chance to burn then piercing 1. Same cost and Firebrand has 1 additional HP.  The teleporting is good but I find that most people try to focus them down anyway.

I've been having wishy washy thoughts on Pentagram. I find that it is really fragile for its high cost. The mana incentive is good when you are ready to attack, so as an opening you fall behind other spawnpoints quickly. I wouldn't  mind hearing how you guys use Pentagram.

Here is a link to the forum about the playthrough with it! -->http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=14786.0

I haven't been satisfied with the Pentagram for a number of reasons. It's rather expensive, but it doesn't produce mana efficiently early on. It's extremely vulnerable to Ethereal attacks, and the creature base for it is not ideal.

Firebrand Imps are okay, but they basically do nothing against an opponent with Dragonscale Hauberk or Elemental Cloak, and they're not particularly sturdy. Wildfire Imps are cool in theory, but you need to keep your opponent on fire for them to do any damage, and it costs a lot to get enough of them to represent a real threat. They are also extremely fragile, and most opponents should be able to focus down an imp swarm fairly efficiently. Without the Pentagram you just don't have the action economy to play an imp swarm, but it's so expensive for what it does that you'll never be able to do much besides swarm with imps if you do play it.

Basically, between the action economy problems for imp swarm and the lack of efficient defensive options (soldiers including skeletons have Armory, Falcons have Flying, and zombies have Resilient) I just don't think imp swarm is viable. If the Pentagram was less expensive to get going I would say to just play a Dark Pact Slayer and then swarm, but I don't see that working with how slow it would be.

If the Pentagram cost a little less, I might consider playing it in the mid game, but it's just such a mana sink to get it started, and I'll need my mana for other things by the time it becomes reasonably efficient.

Infernian Scourger is too expensive for what it does. I think of it as an inferior Timber Wolf in most circumstances. Sure, Counterstrike is a good ability, but mostly on a sturdier body. I'd rather have the 2 more Life, 1 Armor, and 1 attack die than the Counterstrike trait and Piercing +1.

I've tried opening with a Pentagram a few times, but I never liked my action/mana economy or my options in general when I went that route.

I've been debating the merits of Mana Crystal -> Battle Forge or Mana Crystal -> Mana Crystal openings. The Adramelech Warlock can do some extremely aggressive openings (Lord of Fire rush/Flameblast spam), but I feel like she won't have enough followup if she doesn't play a bit of economy turn 1.

I think you're analysis is spot on Sdougla2. I really want the [mwcard=MW1J17]Pentagram[/mwcard] to work. The ability of the Pentagram is good when you're ready to attack, but the nature of a spawnpoint is to cast it early on. The only way I can see a swarm Imp build working is to cast the pentagram turn one then immediately rush your opponent and try to get the extra mana out. Thanks for the insight.

I've been trying to come up with an opening that is adaptable to what my opponent does. The problem I've been having with spawnpoints is that you commit a lot of mana and a rush can make the game really close. The exception being spawnpoints like [mwcard=DNQ05]Libro Mortuos[/mwcard] which are inexpensive and effective.

I agree with trying to spam [mwcard=MW1A06]Flameblast[/mwcard] and Adramalech as bad against anything but rush decks. I've been liking Mana Crystal/Battle Forge T1. You don't have to play the Battle Forge if you don't think you'll have time to get use out of it, and you can T2 play [mwcard=MW1C01]Adramelech, Lord of Fire[/mwcard] in response to aggression. The creatures I would want are probably [mwcard=MWSTX2FFC02]Blood Demon[/mwcard] or [mwcard=MW1C03]Dark Pact Slayer[/mwcard]. I'm unsure which one I like more.

Thanks for the advice. I've been coming up with double BF openings and such that are kind of wacky. This has helped me get a good perspective

Personally I like Dark Pact Slayers better than Blood Demons. Dark Pact Slayers are better against the things that shut down your other damage sources the most efficiently (Dragonscale Hauberk and Elemental Cloak), they make better and more reliable guards (can't guard very often with Blood Demon due to Bloodthirsty), and their fire resistance makes it easier to throw around zone attacks profitably.

That is a very solid argument! A++

Andramalech has a pretty HOT wife. HELL I would even say she is on FIRE!

I know my terrible puns probably BURN your eyes. You will just have to SIZZLE in contempt and try to let off some STEAM in response to my PUN-ishment.

You may now return to you regularly scheduled forum banter.

@Maverick - You could say that she know how to HEAT things up. She also has a bunch of little DEVILS running around. I would say that her looks could end up with a TRIDENT in your heart!
