Flaming Hellion in a Wizard spellbook?
« on: October 15, 2014, 04:45:06 PM »
It might just be a crasy idea, but im considering including a [mwcard=MW1C16]Flaming Hellion[/mwcard] in my Wizard spellbook.

Pros:
One of the best players in my group likes to play Druid, were im in trouble. A "free" Fire attack each round might be a solution

Several players like to play Necromancer. Im running Gorgon Archer and Poison Gas Cloud - i need somehing to stop a Skeleton/Zombie Horde..

Finally a few players like to play with fire. The Fire heavy Warlocks and Fire Wizard. Flaming Hellion is Flame Immune..

Cons:
cost 6 spellbooks to include, that going to hurt.

I don't see the issue. It is a good card. Unless the rest of your book list contradicts it for some reason I say go for it.

This Promo might work for you and as a Fire Wizard you could carry 6 for the same cost....

Nice looking promo!
Im looking forward to that!

The Flaming Hellion is for my Air Wizard. He runs Force Push, Jet Stream, Staff of Storms, Teleport Trap, Wall of Thorns, Bloodspine Walls. Im in trouble vs a druid with all his rooted creatures.

I could always try Fire Wizard, Warlocks or Warlords with Goblin Alchemists!

It would be more action intensive though, always trade offs there are, mmm.

The promo is nice but I would rather run Flameblast over that. One more mana, causes damage, and more overall utility because you do not need a creature in position first. Less burn chance but not overly much. Same level of spell too so cheap to include in books.

Alternatively you can run Ring of Fire x2 and when the druid swarms you with plants and vines you can spam it for two turns and burn down everything he has built up. Great against non-druid swarm books too. Not sure why more people do not run this card.

[mwcard=MW1C34]Steelclaw Grizzly[/mwcard]

On this bad boy it could be quite effective

[mwcard=DNC20]Vine Snapper[/mwcard]

The irony on this one would be quite funny.....Flame +2  :o

Piranha plants! They're weak to Mario's fireballs even though they spit fire out themselves. And I think some real life animals might be weak to their own natural poison if it touches the wrong part of their body, but I'm no expert and can't cite any examples off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, and some trees need fire to reproduce, strangely enough.

I've never really liked the Flaming Hellions for AC warlock, but I can see how the newer warlock would want them.

I think it's funny they use Makunda in the art for Flame Strike; bleed and burn is a good combo.

Ive tinkered with Flaming Hellions and Hellfiretrap (could also use Firebrand Imp) in a Druid book before.. shes pays triple for fire, but both the demons and Hellfire Trap are actually Dark so she only pays double for some fire damage that way.

With Flame Strike, remember it says the attack cannot already have an effect die roll..so a lot of creatures cant actually use it.  Cant stack bleed+burn, or daze+burn and such.

I am still adamant the elemental effect incantations are not worth it. Just cast an elemental attack spell. More effective, more efficient, not creature dependent, not position dependent, does damage...ect.

The incantation might have more use once we know what Defrost (and Frost/Freeze) does. Cheaper than Flameblast. Has 0-2 range and creature can move 1-2 zone, making its range can go up to 0-4.

If the creature is fast then yes 0-4 otherwise 0-3. A mage could double move and quick cast and still acquire the range of 0-3. Though I doubt you would be that desperate for a flame blast or for a flame effect roll on a creature for that matter.

What happens with flame strike if I have War sledge with sweeping and daze?
