My futur Warlord spellbook (once FiF get released)
« on: May 14, 2014, 08:49:00 AM »
With the current cards spoiled, here is what my futur Warlord spellbook will look like.

Attacks (6):

Hail of Stone (2)
Hurl Boulder x2 (4)

Conjurations (19):

Akiro's Hammer (3)
Altar of Carnage (2)
Altar of Domination (2) + Talos
Armory (3)
Barrack (3)
Construction Yard (2)
Garrison Post x2 (2)
Harshforge Monolith (2)
Wall of Earth x3 (3)

Creatures (43):

Goblin Alchemist (2)
Gurmash (3)
Mort (8)
Skeletal Archer x2 (12)
Skeletal Knight (6)
Skeletal Minion x2 (4)
Skeletal Sentry x2 (8)

Enchantments (6):

Standard Bearer (2)
Fortified Position x2 (4)

Equipments (14):

Forge Hammer (2)
Gloves of Strenght (1)
Harshforge Plate (2)
Helm of Command (2)
Leather Boots (1)
Mage Staff (3)
Ring of Command (1)

Incantations (30):

Battle Fury x2 (2)
Charge (1)
Conquer x2 (8)
Defend x2 (2)
Dissolve x2 (4)
Evade x2 (2)
Force Push x2 (4)
Perfect Strike x2 (2)
Piercing Strike (1)
Power Strike (1)
Reassemble (2)
Shift Enchantment x2 (2)
Sniper Shot (1)

You probably already all know that I am a big fan of the Skeleton Soldiers Warlord. I love that they are immune to poison and psychic. That they have very high HP and with Warlord easy access to zone armor buff them and Mort's reconstruct, it makes them quite sturdy. Also, since they are soldier, they benefit from Warlord's Battle Order and soon the Armory.

Currently, since there is no level 2 Skeleton Soldier (I really hope they change Skeletal Sentry to get the soldier subtype, something that this creature need and deserve), but if they ever change that, I would remove a Goblin Alchemist and a Skeletal Knight to make room for two of these.

Since Warlord has a though time against Druid, Akiro's Hammer made its way in this build and the Goblin Alchemist fire attack is useful too.

The Harshforge stuff will help against Warlock curses.
There is no Dispel in that book. It might change if I find out Harshforge Monolith not enough to deal with enhantments, but right now, in my experience, it is very costly in spellbook points and in mana to try to dispel an enchantment as a Warlord.

I like the direction that you are headed with this spellbook. Would you happen to have an idea of what the general opening moves would be or would that depend heavily on what sort of Mage you are facing?

It would generally go like this:

Turn 1 (19): Barrack (7) in corner, move up one zone then cast Garrison Post (3) NC.
Turn 2 (12): Spawn Skeletal Minion (9) on GP, cast Construction Yard (2) in top corner.
Turn 3 (11): I would most likely spawn a Skeletal Knight (1) on GP.

But if Skeletal Sentry was a  soldier, it would be a much nicier opening.

Turn 1 (19): Barrack (7) in corner. Move up 1 zone then cast Construction Yard (0) in top corner.
Turn 2 (9): Spawn Skeletal Sentry (3) on Barrack. Cast Garrison Post (0) in NC.
Turn 3 (9): Spawn Skeletal Sentry (4) on GP. Move the first sentry on mage to guard. Cast Command Ring (1).

But indeed it would also depend of the mage I would be facing. This build can also go with a Big Few strategy.
Double move NC and cast Ring of Command. On turn 2 summon Mort and cast Standard Bearer on him. On Turn 3 summon a Skeletal Archer. Now you have a combo where opponent either stay away and get shot or come in range and get bashed hard.

I would like to compete against this Warlord on Octgn. In my opinion skeletons are the weakest creatures you could play with a warlord, every living soldier is stronger (Westlock Knight, Orc Soldiers or Bridge Trolls).
Akiro, I have never prayed to you before. No one will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that one stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Akiro... so grant me strength! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

But all those creature are vunerable to Weak, Rot, Bleed, Taint, Cripple, Mind Control, Charm, Idol of Pestilence, Ghoul Rot, Poison Gas Cloud, etc.. They also give bonus to creature with Bloodthirsty and Vampirism.

Skeletons doesnt care about any of these.

Plus with Mort and Reassemble incantation, that whole thing where they can't heal due to non-living is nullified. Well at least until Mort is disposed of and you run out of Reassemble ;)

On the other side, you cannot buff them with enchantments, that make them hit like a boss. Against a good player you will lose a skeleton every round. Thats really not mana effective :)
What is your plan? To stay behind on your fortified position, get your archers out? You will be teleportet away to the enemy zone of death and probably be in a world of pain before your skeletons even reach you. By following you, the leave the protection zone and are very vulnerable targets.
Or do you plan to attack with melee skeletons? If doing that, using your fortified enchants are not easy to aim while on the move. You skeletons will be easy targets too.
You mention to be immun to <Weak, Rot, Bleed, Taint, Cripple, Mind Control, Charm, Idol of Pestilence, Ghoul Rot, Poison Gas Cloud, Bloodthirsty and Vampirism>. Thats nice, but if you rely on that and feel safe that way, you cannot play a stable game. What if your enemy is relying on raw force instead of playing around? You got no piercing attacks against heavy armor.

Again, i would really like to play against that build, if you find the time :)

You're gonna have to wait a while for that. Many cards are from FiF, so they won't be on OCTGN for a while. Set doesn't come out till June so it'll be some time after that.

My warlord build doesnt rely on enchantment. It uses command incantation to buff them. Also Armory grant +1 Piercing and I have Piercing Strike to deal with high armor.

To deal against "raw power" opponent buffed with enchantments, Harshforge Monolith will make them pay for those enchantments, leaving them weaker mana-wise. Also, with the amount of armor my creature/mage will have, raw power is not much a problem. Fortified Position is easily moved with Shift Enchantment.

And my skeletons have no problem ditching damage. Battle Fury with Piercing Strike on Mort and it can one shot a Grizzly.

Like Lordofwinter said, most of these cards are from FiF so not on octgn, and I do not own a PC, so I can't play on octgn anyway.

You'll have to let us know how this build does when you're able to play it.  I wish more people would do reports of the battles they have.  I learn a lot from session recaps.

Ok, now it makes more sense to me, but i'm still not convinced, that undead are the better choice for warlord. All the commands you use and all the buildings that buff your troops would buff the living too.
The possibility that you encounter undead in a duel with annother mage makes me not rely on effects like Weak, Rot, Bleed etc. They are nice to have in the deck but i would never build my entire tactic around them.

And btw. no PC at home? Is this even possible in the 21th century? ;)

Updated it with Skeletal Sentries since now they are soldiers.
