Hydro immunity/acid
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:51:32 PM »
Is acid a subtype of water school?

If so, if a creature is hydro immune, does that mean it is also acid immune?

I looked but couldn't find an answer in the FAQs.

(Sorry if my looking sucked.  Also sorry if the question is already obviously answered in the rules.)

Interesting.
I can't find anything in the codex or rulebook which clearly defines "acid=damage type", too.
This leaves the question : " What is acid ?"

Acid is not listed in the codex.
The damage-type entry points to the rulebook entry, which doesn't list acid (as it wasn't there yet).
The expansion rulebooks don't mention acid either.
Corrode says it is an acid condition...but that doesn't mean there has to be an acid damage-type (?).
(web versions, didn't check if paper version is better but am too lazy to get up as I doubt it =P )

I am sure "acid" is meant to be a seperate damage-type though.

So..:
Is acid a subtype of water school?
If so, if a creature is hydro immune, does that mean it is also acid immune?
No.

Hydro Immunity only applies to cards with the "Hydro" subtype or damage type.

Being a Water School spell does not make it automatically "Hydro".   In order to be immune to Acid it must have "Acid Immunity" specifically.

Acid and Hydro are not linked, nor are they mutually exclusive. They can both be Damage Types, indicated by the appropriate icon in the attack bar. They also can both be subtypes of a spell, listed in the top right hand corner underneath the spell Type. Mechanically, neither of them has to actually be Water, but I seriously doubt we will ever see a non-Water Hydro spell and I would be surprised by a non-Water Acid spell.

Immunity is defined in the Codex and discussed on page 26 of the English Rulebook v3.0. The list of Damage Types in the rulebook is not comprehensive. It is lacking Acid as well as Frost (which is clearly mentioned on several cards although nothing actually deals it as of yet).

TY Baron and Zuberi

They are correct the school of the spell may not be the type of damage the spell does. Always check the type line.
