aegis vs direct damage
« on: June 12, 2013, 07:47:48 PM »
aegis reduces dice by 1 from all attacks.

does this include any spell/attacks that deal direct damage. mainly these 3 scenarios come to mind.
1. drain life does 5 dice of direct damage, would, this change to 4 dice
2. push into an impassable wall does 3 dice of direct damage, would this only do 2 dice.
3. if a creature/spell  were to have a direct damage dice attack would that be reduced

my guess is
1. no
2. yes
3. yes
Being Aussie we place all our cards face down, apart from enchantments which are face up

1 Drain Life is an Incantation and does not perform an attack, so no.

2 With wall bashing I "think" you are correct, but would probably need a confirmation from someone wiser than me

3 This would be reduced, as long as its an attack

Direct Damage is not Attack and therefore is not reduced.

"Aegis X
All attacks made against this object subtract X attack dice before rolling" - rulebook

"Bashed
When a creature is Pushed into a wall with the Passage Blocked trait it is
Bashed. It receives an Unavoidable attack of 3 attack dice of damage." - rulebook

Drain Life is not an attack spell, so Aegis does nothing against it.

Wall bashing is considered an attack, so Aegis would work against it.

Rule of thumb: As long as the attack is a dice attack and NOT the result of an enchantment or incantation, Aegis applies.

Just FYI, Aegis doesn't stack, and the attacker will never roll less than 1 die against Aegis.

adjust your rule if thumb, drain life states "5 attack dice of direct damage"

I see my flaw I thought bashes was 3 dice of direct damage.

I was confused with the term direct damage (sounding a lot like true damage from league of legends) and if that can be reduced by aegis
