zone attack and defense

Hi,

In Arena zone attacks are unavoidable. I don't see that in Academy, or did I miss it?

You are right that the Academy Rulebook does not include the phrase from the Arena rulebook: "Zone attacks
have the Unavoidable trait".  I'm not sure this is intentional. I'll try to get back to you on that.

I can't speak to intention, but zone attacks in Academy are not inherently unavoidable. You can use Defenses against them unless otherwise stated. However, if you use those spells in Arena, they gain the unavoidable trait because that's nested into zone attacks by Arena rules.

Just another quirky difference between the two games.

About as official as it's likely to get is this:

At Gen Con 2017 the Academy Tournament will treat zone attacks as avoidable.

Other than that I'll admit when ay testers or even designers(So I'm told) have a rules question we ask Zuberi.
