Mage Wars Academy / Re: Played game 50 times...
« on: August 13, 2019, 03:42:39 AM »
Thnx!

Beastmaster has a lot to choose from, and has creatures with widest array of uses in his own school: tough, elusive, swarmy, rangers. Add his powerful enchantments and you have a tough opponent.
I was struggling against him with a Wizard. It would take me a lot of time to adjust a Wizards deck after a defeat. If he would succeed, in a minute you can fix Beastmasters deck and here we go again  ;D

Currently favorite is Necromancer. Its just plain fun to play, with his rots, mummy healing. Lot of small but persistent damage make some hair pulling moments  ;D

Mage Wars Academy / Played game 50 times...

... and made a small review on BGG. Hopefully will encourage some players to dive into this game.

Anyway, with my small selection of mages current results are
Beastmaster vs Wizard: 12 - 13
Priestess vs Warlock: 4 - 4
Beastmaster vs Warlock: 2 - 4
Priestess vs Beastmaster: 2 - 0
Priestess vs Warlock: 1 - 0
Warlord vs Warlock: 2 - 0
Priestess vs Necromancer: 2 - 0
Beastmaster vs Necromancer: 1 - 1

I play games according to mage spheres mostly, so no cherrypicking best spells and monsters across the game for I dunno, Wizard. It just seems unhonorable..

I do have one house rule: Weakness should not stack!
I had it enough one game when Asp made 6 saves, and other attacks that passed didn't deal any damage (no wonder with 1 die). Game lingered for 2 and half hours, and it was worse game I ever had. To counter it, I need a lot of spellbook space for prevention and curing, and it's just plain stupid - Academy has too little spellbook space to use it like that. There are lot of other counters for big bad guys, not spamming with hard to kill Asps. Academy should be a short game, not preventing damage to everyone indefinitely.
I played almost since beginning that way and never encountered a problem.

Anyways, my 2 cents. I thank you for your support and help, I am still a newbie.
Cheers!

Mage Wars Academy / Re: Matatoomba, Ethereal, Critical Damage

Thank you!
I guess I'll need to make some Academy Codex since keywords are not explained in Expansions I have nor in Rulebook ("Will be explained in further Expansions").

Mage Wars Academy / Matatoomba, Ethereal, Critical Damage
« on: August 03, 2019, 03:26:48 PM »
In Necromancer expansion, Matatoomba has attack modifiers
Ethereal
Critical Damage.
Its kinda awkwardly spelled - I presume those are two abilities since each is in its own line, and I know what Ethereal does. What is Critical damage? All damage this creature does is considered critical? I cannot find in Mage Wars nor Academy rules any explanation.

Thnx!

Rules Discussion / Slumber affecting creature traits
« on: January 03, 2019, 02:53:03 PM »
Hello!

If I cast Slumber on Drakas Imp Overlord, would that disable his traits?
All other demons gain Melee +1.
During Upkeep another demon must receive 1 direct damage.

If he was Exiled, I presume his trait's would be gone with him too as he's not present. But with Slumber.. I'm gonna go with same thing, as I guess he "forces" others to fight more - when he is disabled he is not the pushing them anymore..
