This may just be in my meta but I would add another mongoose elusiveness because that is usually the enchantment that gets dispelled first.

Dropped Veteran's belt, added a second force field and made a few more slight tweaks.  So far its undefeated. I'm thinking of ditching the thoughtspores and adding something else still though.

Spells / Re: Teleport Errata (Friendly** Creature and Zone)
« on: June 14, 2014, 12:34:00 AM »
Every time, when you build up a Zone of death, teleport is bad for the gameplay.
Let it be a necromancer with alot of zombies, let it be a Druid with vinesnappers and thornlashers, let it be a priestress with a bunch of knights. If your mage is teleported into this hellhole, there is often no escape possible (jinx, another teleport, tanglevine etc.). Your mage just dies there. And btw you cannot save your mage with a nullify, if your opponent uses his qc and action at the same time (seeking dispel, teleport).

I personally agree that there should be something that prevents this situation or makes it happen not that often. Especially in 2on2 games, teleport as it is now is the spell, that takes some fun out of the game.
"You shall not teleport enemy mages" could be the answer. Something else could be "if you teleport the enemy mage, pay double mana cost"

If someone builds up a zone of death, and you leave yourself in position to be teleported into it then you have no one to blame but yourself.  The opposing mage still has to be within two zones of you to make it work, and if you didn't have the foresight to see it coming then that is poor planning on your part whether they do a seeking dispel/teleport combo as you mentioned or not.

In my opinion the card is fine as it is, and doesn't require house rules or errata.

I like the idea of transferring the curses, but a Nullify would really ruin your day it seems like.

Only 1 Forcefield? Seems a tad light.

With enchanters wardstone it'll cost 13 mana to dispel.  If my opponent has that much mana free with all the other mana absorbing things I've thrown their way then I'm probably losing anyway.  Plus with dancing scimitar, deflect, and force orb I'm still averaging three defenses a turn.... but they aren't guaranteed... might tweak some things and see if I can get a second one in there.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Built to Last Forcemaster

Hello all,

I've been looking at Forcemasters and the thing I notice is if they don't get off quick, they don't get off at all.  I wanted a FM that doesn't necessarily have to go aggro to get the win.  With that in mind I came up with this book:

[spellbook]
[spellbookheader]
[spellbookname][/spellbookname]
[mage]Forcemaster[/mage]

Some of the other theory behind this build.  I want it to cost my opponent mana no matter what they do.  Wardstone makes it harder to remove my enchantments, armor ward makes it harder to remove my equipment, supression orb makes it harder to get to me especially if I start teleporting your creatures away with a thoughtspore.  Mordor's Obelisk hurts you if you try to swarm me.

The two thoughtspore's who I've rarely used would have either a teleport or battle fury.

Oh and I prefer Charm to mind control simply because I can fit three of those in for the cost of one, and upkeep is basically free with my psi-orb.

So far I've had success with it, just wondering what other's thoughts are about playing a FM this way instead of the in your face way.

Do you have any attack spells in the build because direct damage is always nice against the undead.  Fire might be problematic for the beastmaster because of the  the triple cost but burns on a zombie are nice especially if they stick for multiple rounds.  If not surging wave can potentially push/slam Shaggie keeping him out of your hair for a bit.

General Questions / Another upkeep question
« on: May 09, 2014, 01:57:25 PM »
I was playing someone today and ran into a question, I took their word for it during the game, but for my own knowledge wanted to see what the ruling would be in this situation.

I was playing a forcemaster and had several of my oppnent's creatures either charmed or in force holds. There was a Mordor's Obelisk on the field giving all non mage creatures upkeep plus 1.

At the start of the the round I paid my upkeeps to keep my charms/force holds on, my opponent then decided to not pay the upkeep so all his creatures were destroyed.

I thought it was a pretty slick move because I wasted the mana and couldn't get it back, but now I'm left wondering because I can't pay upkeep if there is no creature so should I have waited to see if he paid upkeep on the creature first, should it have been determined by who has initiative since it is a timing issue, or was he right and I'm just stuck dealing with that strategy going forward?

Any clarification would be helpful.

I added a cloak of shadows and meditation amulet, doubled up on death ring since people like to dissolve it so much, and reduced down to one zombie frenzy, and have been kicking butt with this build now.  Out of my last 5 games I've won 4 and most of them pretty easily.  Using the sacrificial altar to buff Shaggie, and then obliterating something else to buff him again makes him pretty nasty.   My teleports, force pulls, and force holds mages/creatures in place and make it hard too hard to run away from Shaggie and the rest of the swarm.  I played a Warlock and knocked out Adramalech in two turns thanks to a Maim wings, and Shaggie hitting for 9 dice a turn.  I'm sure there's some more fine tuning, but right now it's really working well for me.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Found out I was giving hints on how to beat my own force master in this thread

Well it didn't work this time, but rest assured I will take down your Forcemaster one day!!!!

I know the thunderbolt looks odd, but so many people try to run from the zombies that I like having a 3 range spell in my back pocket.  Also the reason for the fireballs over flameblast cause I think off the top of my head it has 1 more range compared to flameblast (but I have been known to be wrong before) and they end up being helpful against druid decks.

Kind of the same logic behind having the archers, it allows me to take shots at you while the swarm slowly makes their way closer.

I might pull the hellfire traps, but I've actually had people walk right into them, and one time Krathalor was in my face so I laid the trap on the quickcast and teleported him into that zone on my full action.

But I do appreciate all the suggests I'll see how they work out, especially pulling the extra zombie frenzys, I been using that card all wrong and realize now that it is more of a killshot card than anything else.

If you're worried about Mind Control, bring some copies of Mind Shield. There is nothing more satisfying than spending 2 mana and a level 1 spell to counter 12+ mana level 6 spell.

Sadly the only expansion I don't have right now is Forcemaster vs Warlord so Mind Shield is a no go.

Strategy and Tactics / Need help with my warlock against a forcemaster
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:20:20 PM »
Hi,

So obviously I am trying to take on a Forcemaster using my Warlock.  The problem I'm running into is that I play my Warlock as a get in your face quick and beat up on you type, which is the same as the FM except I feel like the FM does it better.

My opponent almost always plays a battle forge turn one, I'm thinking of using Cheetah Speed on my quick cast, and then a surging wave on his battle forge to hopefully take it out before it can produce any equipment.  From there I figure to equip my lash of hellfire and then swing on my full cast. Then I would keep launching curses and attacks.  I know it seems very rudimentary but I'm still new to the game in general and I've only run the Warlock a few times.  I just know that in a prolonged game I end up having trouble because I only run a Goran, Adramelech and a Necropian Vampiress in this book, so I have less creatures to try to eat up Forcefields and defenses,  and I know I'm going to have to deal with 1-2 mind control attempts as well.

First time posting on here, I was introduced to Mage Wars a few months ago, and I'm trying to get to the next level in terms of strategy and making my spellbook work well.  So far I've had the most success with my Necro deck.

With this build I'm trying to give myself more options than only relying on Shaggoth.  My focus before used to be to get Shaggoth out and get him fed, but now I'm realizing the combo of sacrificial altar and Ravenous Ghoul might work, albeit a little slower because I have to spend the quick action.

Anyway I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts and feedback, thanks!
