...cost eight each in total but they showed up with an emoticon...

I tried to disable the emoticon but could not find the proper escape sequence in the Kunena documentation.  If anyone finds out how to do this let me know.

General Questions / Reveal Enchantment Timing Question
« on: December 30, 2012, 08:54:12 PM »
Lets say I have maim wings on an opponent's flying creature, unrevealed.
My opponent activates the creature.
At this point, if I reveal, my opponent will not be able to target a flying creature.
Lets say I wait until my opponent declares the attack, and targets one of my flying creatures.
If I reveal now, since the target has already been declared, I would expect it to be too late to prevent the attack.

Thematically this would represent maiming the wings after the creature was already locked in combat with the opponent, so it is too late to negate the target.

Does this sound right?

Rules Discussion / Re: Is a "strike" also an "attack"
« on: December 29, 2012, 01:54:17 AM »
I was referring to "strike" as described in phase 5 of the attack order, not the names of the cards.  If the words "strike" and "attack" are interchangeable, then this means there are 2 kinds of attacks.  One type is a full attack with phases 1 through 8, and another type is an "additional" attack with only phases 2 through 4.  If this is the case, then it is reasonable to assume that attack bonuses apply to only the first attack per activation.

Are there any attack bonuses that apply to more than the first attack?  Or does "first attack only per activation" cover it?

Rules Discussion / Is a "strike" also an "attack"
« on: December 28, 2012, 07:55:20 PM »
It seems that a strike cannot be an attack, because strikes happen within an attack, they do not have their own attack phase, but are a single phase within the attack.
But it also seems that the rules also explicitly say that triple strike and double strike grant additional attacks.

These both cannot be true.

It matters because if I have melee + X, and if a strike is an attack, I only get the bonus for the first attack.  But if a strike is not an attack, but part of an attack, then I get the bonus for all of my strikes.

General Questions / Can I add more mana to a reversed spell?
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:04:05 PM »
Reverse Magic: When this creature is targeted by an incantation or enchantment spell controlled by an opponent, you must reveal Reverse Magic during the Counter Spell Step.  You take control of that spell.  Redirect it back to the caster, who now becomes the target of the spell.  If the spell cannot target the caster, it is countered.  Then, destroy reverse magic.

Say for example, the Warlock casts explode on the Beastmaster's regenration belt, and the Beastmaster has reverse magic.  Can the Beastmaster change the target of the spell to the warlock's lash of hellfire, paying the 2 mana difference?  (regeneration belt costs 6, lash of hellfire costs 8)

General Questions / Does pacify negate the second sweeping attack?
« on: December 28, 2012, 04:41:40 PM »
Pacify: Each round, the first time this creature makes a melee or ranged attack, its controller must pay 2 mana during the Declare Attack Step, or else the attack is canceled.  Pacify does not affect counterstrikes.

Sweeping: This attack has a wide sweeping arc and can target and strike 2 different targets in the same zone.  The second attack occurs at the end of the attack sequence from the first attack.  Start a new attack sequence beginning with the Declare Attack Step.  Note: The second attack cannot be made against the same target as the first attack.  If there is not a different valid target for the second attack, then the Sweeping trait has no effect this round.

So sounds obvious that extra strikes you get from doublestrike and triplestrike would be cancelled, but not the extra attack you get from sweeping.

The scenario I am imagining is two opponent creatures, one guarding.  I have one creature with the pacify enchantment attached and a sweeping attack.  I make the sweeping attack on the guard, but choose not to pay the 2 mana indicated on pacify.  The first attack is cancelled and the guard marker is removed, freeing up my second attack for the other creature.  Is it correct that I can do this?  If not, why not?

Rules Discussion / Re: Can "Death Link" heal more life that target has?
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:06:26 PM »
So the literal interpretation, not the thematic interpretation.
Sounds like in my example, I would heal 2 points as long as I had at least 2 damage, even if the target has only one life.
I say not thematic because if the target has only one life, I shouldn't be able to get 2 life from it.

You could only heal the one point.

That makes thematic sense, but if that's the case it definitely needs an errata because the literal text says differently.  Taken literally, you do two separate things
(1) heal up to 2 damage
(2) place the amount of damage you heal on target creature
Healing is limited by your total life
Damage is not limited by the targets health, for example a creature can deal more damage than a target has life.  While the Vampiric trait explicitly states not to count damage exceeding the target's life total, Death Link makes no such distinction.
I could see it argued both ways because in this case the Thematic and Literal interpretations differ.

General Questions / Re: When does "different" reset for Pentagram?

Pentagram says it can only gain a maximum of 2 mana "this way".

Yep, re-reading it makes me realize you and Mathias  are completely right.  Thanks.

Looks like board game geek approved the file.  So you can get it from there instead of from my site.

...if your Warlock had 2 + damage on it and the DLd creature only had 1 health you would first heal your damage then the enchanted creature would take 2...

That is the part I was confused about.  I know you can't heal more than you have damage, but would you get to heal 2 of your damage, even if the target (not you, the target of the spell) only had one life left?  Or in this case would you only heal 1 damage?

I assume this condition is reset every round. This way you can gain 1 to 3 mana each round.

How can you get 3 mana per round?  The card wording explicitly says no more than 2 mana per round.

Web based or make it an app...  Either way it needs to happen...  My calculator ain't cutting it.  :)

If your only concern is the calculation, I have created and posted an application that handles this on board game geek.  It does not have the full spell text though, only enough information to calculate the cost.
