Title: academy rules resume for arena players
Post by: Halewijn on February 11, 2016, 09:01:34 AM
hypothetically, I don't want to read all the academy rules because I know arena. What are the things I should remember?

- arena in 1 zone
- 40 spellbookpoints, max 3 for level 1 spells, 2 for everything above. (1 for epic)
- no planning
- 2 rounds where you may not target each other
- no first/last quick cast phases
- when a pest creature attacks a guard, the guard may ignore it and not counterstrike, keeping his marker.
- stagger
- +x buffs for attacks only count once per round and not once per attack action.

Am I missing something?

I think it is the Guard can choose to counterstrike if he chooses not to, he can keep his guard marker

That is only against pests.

EDIT: Sorry sIKE. Somehow I missed the in-between post and so corrected you, when you were referencing the right stuff. Sorry, sir.

Yes, that is what I meant.

Anyway, that rule should be implemented in arena too.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that +1 buffs are per round not per action.

Sometimes, just remind me. I've never really gotten in the swing of awarding Banana Stickers. But, I'm still working on it.

With the academy set released, stagger is in arena too, so that's not technically a difference between academy and arena.

Some other major differences that aren't rules differences per se:

-skipping a quickcast action to save mana actually works and doesn't cause a huge tempo loss like it does in arena.
-at least with the current mages, you generally want to summon at least 3 creatures per game, especially since there are no conjurations yet
-Guarding is a lot more important

I think there are others that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head
