I am planning on being at The Games Keep in West Chester PA on Saturday April 5th for International Tabletop Day.  It would be great if some of you guys can make it out and we could get in a few casual games. Please let me know if anyone is interested.  Thanks!

@Kich

I can't do it frequently, but I would still love to get together when our schedules coincide.  Let me know next time you want to play. My place, your or somewhere in between all work for me.

@wtcannonjr

I am trying to see if I can make it out to WBC Friday-Sunday. The more Mage Wars players that were attending, the easier it would be for me to justify the cost.  Plus I could use the practice for GenCon the following week!

Rules Discussion / Re: disolve and nullify
« on: March 17, 2014, 09:33:31 AM »
Can exolode be blocked by a nullify? And, if so, is mage wand "part" of my mage as well?

Yes, explode is countered by nullify.  Take a look at the target line for Explode. The target must be a Mage, not the equipment card they are carrying.  Nullify counters Incantations (like Explode) and Enchantments that target the Mage the Nullify is attached to.  Equipment (like Mage Wand) is in a sense a "part" of the Mage because it attaches to them.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Eternal Servant

So I put together a Necromancer the other day, haven't tested it yet, and I was thinking about Eternal Servant. now I have some hope we'll be getting some more undead on down the line but I'm also curious as to which of the current line up normally gets the token in your experience? I'm going skeletons with a guest appearance by Malacoda though I'm curious about just in general.

Just so you know, Malacoda is living and cannot be an Eternal Servant.  I like making a Deathfang an Eternal Servant. Not only do they get to reanimate close to the enemy but the extra pierce +1 is nice.

Yes I'm aware Malacoda is living, and Legendary.

Ok. Cool. When I read your post I thought you were planning on making Skeletons and Malacoda as your Eternal Servants.

League / Tournament Play / Re: New Jersey Mage Wars

That is certainly a manageable drive for me.  Feel free to PM me if you want to get together some Saturday or Sunday and we can figure it out. I also run the occasional tournament in West Chester PA so I can add you to my notification list for upcoming events if you want.

Hi FrostBite! How close are you to North East Philly? I wouldn't mind driving a little bit to get in a few games.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Necromancer Poison spell book
« on: February 14, 2014, 02:27:16 PM »
I am curious, why are you running 2 copies of bear strength and bull endurance?  They cannot be cast on non-living creatures so they will only work on your Necromancer or Malacoda.  Were they your intended targets for these spells?  If not, removing them will free up 8 spellbook points so you could add in some equipment like Cloak of Shadows and armor.

I really like the [mwcard=MW1C03] Dark Pact Slayer[/mwcard].  Plenty of life, good armor and Piercing +2 is fantastic for 13 mana.  Love these guys!

If you are going to kill the other guy with enchantments, I would add in a couple of enchanter's wardstones to make the dispels as painful as possible for your opponent.

League / Tournament Play / Re: Bringing arena boards?
« on: February 03, 2014, 08:58:14 AM »
For my local tournaments I have asked people to bring their own boards, markers etc. Then I set up as many boards as we will need and I try to seat the player who owns the board at their board each round. Usually it works out and I have not had a problem with it yet.

I added it up again and I still get 120. Did I miscalculate the cost of a particular card?

I get 120 too. You are correct

Dunno... my OCTGN Deck Builder gave me 124 pts, even if your book is exactly 120...  ???

Well at least jacksmack figured out the mystery.

Gizzu, if you (or anyone for that matter) uses the book I would love to here how it goes.  Thanks!

1) Technically you only need to cast Idol of Pestilence to force the opponent to come to you.  The Tournament rules say that whoever took more damage in 75 minutes is defeated if there is not a conclusive (KO) outcome.  I think the greatest strength of Idol is that it is effectively 1 damage with unlimited range, and puts the onus on your opponent.

That would be correct under the old tournament rules. At this past tournament we were testing out Arcane Wonders new, experimental tie breaker system.

Quote
Game Points Awarded as follows:

5 Points                Defeat the enemy mage.
3 Points                Modified Win – the play with the greatest Health Total i.e. Life Total – Damage
1 Point                  Draw – (the player that had the lower Health Total)
0 Points                Loss

Tournament Points and Determining a Winner

Add up the total number of points, the player with the most wins. In the event of a tie, look at strength of schedule i.e. average the total number of points earned by each players’ opponents. The player whose opponents have the greatest number of points is the winner.

Total damage is no longer tracked for tie breaking purposes. It is now the remaining health that determines who is the modified winner.

In any event, I agree that Idol of Pestilence is a great card for the Necromancer.
