$6 magnetic status board.
« on: March 24, 2013, 10:41:56 PM »
The magnets and note board were $3 at Target. The mage status board is only being held up by the four magnets....Im holding it upright with no problems, holding it upside down there was no problem. If you wanted you could use double sided tape to hold the status board on there, but Im fine with how it is. Its not moving!

Ill try this again... WOW. that was a pain to get on here. This is me holding it upright to show the integrity of my design. Again, just the four magnets are holding this up. Upside down it stayed as well.

Grrr......And here is what you will need. Target. Six bucks total. Magnets are Supper strong for being small and cheap.

Im going out on a limb and saying it....This is the easiest and best solution. The magnets just dont move unless you want them to. Smack it down on the table....not moving. You could use the extra white board space to list any extra mana/life when there is no room on the board. Cost me $6, and to make it....less then 30 secs. Try it out.

YAY! I'm glad some one used it! I am really happy with this setup. I thought it may be a shot in the dark, but it works so well. Thank you!

My friend and I were just talking about how easily the wooden tokens slide on the status board even if you lightly tap it.  We were talking about how it would be nice to have a less slippery surface (like mouse pad material was mentioned) but I will definitely give this a shot.

I guess I'm surprised with how thick the cardboard is (which is a nice quality and not flimsy) that the magnets actually stick through it.  I've never tried those magnet tacks though pictured.

I also like the extra space for reminders.  I could put upkeep mana cost or regen reminder etc.

I too was surprised...but yep! It works perfectly. Like I said, if you hold the board upside down it wont move or fall. One person on BGG, printed out a photo copy of the board and taped it down, so you could always do that!

Here is a link to that- http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1626850/purple-paladin

It looks really nice...and I bet you have to really pull on the magnets to move them!

This was the best idea EVER.  Those tiny little wood blocks were always getting bumped or sliding around.

I got the small white board, some strong magnets, and perfection!  A simple and cheap solution.  No more frustration with the table getting ticked or a cube sliding.  Plus with the little extra room with the white board we can jot down little reminders to ourselves for upkeep and the like.

We also use that to write down what our life total is since it invariably goes off the board most games.

Thank you so much!

You are very welcome! And yeah- its next to perfection. I too use the white board space for extra life/mana, and I love using the big magnet it came with for my pet tokens and what not.

Hi Everybody,

I'm brand new to the game and found this thread. Thanks for finding a creative solution!

I have an update to the info in here.

1st - The boards are still available at Target for around $3.50 or so. I expect there to be three MW players in our household as well as friends. So I picked up four of them.

2nd - The round magnets are also there. One pack is around $4 and has 16 magnets. This works out for four players as each can have 3 of one color, and another color for damage. That being said I'll probably return them. See number 3.

3rd - I could not find push pins in the colors mentioned at Office Depot. I was able to find similar ones at Staples. There are 10/pack with 5 colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black). It's $4/pack. I also found a store  brand version with brighter colors for $3.50. I opted for the darker colors. 2 packs gives me options for multiple players in our house. These hold the status boards pretty well. I can't pick the board up by the pins, but I can hold the board upside down and shake it a bit. The pins don't move. They hold better than the target round magnets and are normal push pin shape. Also, the colors "feel" better.

Here's a link to the pins I bought:

http://www.staples.com/Quartet-Magnetic-Push-Pins-High-Power-Magnets-Bright-Colors-10-Pack/product_614048

If links aren't allowed then search for quartet magnetic push pins. I found them hanging in the section of the store with dry erase boards.
