Yes. John and his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy last Christmas and named it Benjamin after me. Thus I'd better get my butt to Prague lol.

I promised a new scoring format and here it is. At Gen Con and Gen Con only this year matches that go to time are considered TIES. Not wins. Kill the other mage.

Will post more details when I have a better connection.

Even though I will neither play or follow the tournament this makes me quiet upset. The problems with these rules propably do not need to be explained and also it is understandable why making the tournament is difficult (due to limited time).

I would simply suggest that you use a timer during the planing phases (the players get x minutes to prepare their spells each round). And play with chess clocks during the action phases (which are paused when rolling dice).

Personally I'm disappointed. these rules are totally fair but there is a minimum amount of experience with the game to realize that these rules are fair. I didn't realize for the longest time that time limits don't break or unbalance the game unless you have timed wins. And considering previous use of timed wins in tournaments, I bet I'm not the only one.

Now the argument about time limits is about to be rehashed for the umpteenth time. I really wish we had a larger competitive playerbase so that we could get more tournament data more quickly. It's sad that it's taken so many years for us to start to realize that time limits are okay and timed wins are the real source of imbalance in tourneys.

I am Sailor Vulcan! Champion of justice and reason! And yes, I am already aware my uniform is considered flashy, unprofessional, and borderline sexually provocative for my species by most intelligent lifeforms. I did not choose this outfit. Shut up.

as long as the match duration is of enough length to enable slower/newer players to compete, or to give slower build up decks enough time to compete, then having the match determined by an actual winner is fine. 75 minutes is borderline for time limit I think. 80-90 would be optimal. a lot of matches end about 60ish, but yet enough go to time that 15 more minutes probably makes enough of a difference that the number of tied matches should drop dramatically. I do not know what the time constraints for the qualifiers are, but I am hoping we get closer to the 90 minute range.

We're extending the time limits yes. Will have more news on a few weeks. Rest assured we've looked at this from every angle.

Oh boy it's less than a month away! I'm ordering trophies this week. If you haven't signed up on the Gen Con website please do so. Also remember we're doing a tournament prep session on Thursday August 2nd!
