Best Animal to make the Straywood's Pet?

As it says in the title.

Looking for opinions on what make the best Pet for the Straywood.

For me, I like the Guard Dog.
Yes, you need to put a small conjuration out to get the best effect, but Beastmasters are almost sure to do that. Standing in the shade of Mokhtari with your loyal dog by your side (who rolls 5 dice on his counterattacks and now has additional armour and life) is a lovely way to fight a war.

What are other thoughts?

I would say that the best turn one Pet is Timber Wolf.  If you are willing to wait till turn two for your Pet, I would suggest a Steelclaw Grizzly.  Of course, I have also seen a Falcon used to great effect, especially when augmented with Bear Strength and Lion's Savagery (8 dice on each attack is hard to deal with from a flyer).

i prefer pet raptor. possible pet ram is worth investigating. have not yet though.

For me recently it is the thunderift falcon.  Flying with fast and paired with almost any nature enchant that increases attack is nasty.  Late game I like timberwolves.  Again as I said on other threads the best bang for your buck are lvl 1 and 2 creatures.  Paying 2 or 3 mana for those benefits is crazy cost efficient.  Going to a lvl 3 or 4 start to equal out To a regular enchantment.

Favorite out of school animal has to be highland unicorn.  The fact that he heals friendly creatures in the same zone and giving that armor and life buff keeps him and other creaturea really useful.

Well its almost impossible to answer - or it depends a lot of what you are trying to do.

I like it a lot on Thunderift Falcons. From 0 armor and 5 life to 1 armor and 8 life. It make it a lot harder to kill.
But the point is not to get to attached to your pet and let your opponent kill it so that you can use Pet again.

It seem you will often lose 1 die when using Pet on the flyers, as they will often fight outside your zone.

Feral Bobcat is a creature i always loved, but never really got to work. Often it to will work outside the zone and thus so lose the extra +1 for fighting in your zone.

I like your idea of using it on a Guard Dog. You have to find a way of getting them to fight in the zone you want.
Change of Rage?, Thornlasher?, Mountain Ram?

I was thinking a long similar lines just before seeing your post when i was looking at Packleader´s Cowl.
And i was actually putting Ridgeback Skunk aside for something like that. But still some of the classic level 2 Pets Timber Wolf or Emerald Tegu seems good for something like this as well.

Theres a lot of higher level options as well. Almost all of them good.
If you wanna try a rage strategy its likely the way to go.

I don´t really do math, but i have a feeling that increasing low armor is a lot better than increasing high armor. That would depend on how much dice and piercing your opponent has naturally.

If you're not averse to using promos, the Dragonclaw Wolverine is my favorite pet so far. Super tough, hits like a truck, and makes it tough to attack due to rage.

Otherwise, I've been a big fan of the shoalsdeep croc as a pet as well.
When in doubt, kill it with fire

Not averse to promos, but I’ve never seen any find their way here to Australia. (Unless I am willing to pay the extortioners on ebay)

I can confirm that a Pet Ram is quite fun. Calling out ‘Baaaaaa!’ as it bunts the enemy mage through a Wall of Thorns is very satisfying.

I hope you use the hunting knife in this book.:-)
The Night is Dark and full of fright.

The Wolverine promo that shark is talking about is insane. That might be my favorite pet as well after seeing what it can do. That being said I would say either the Thunderift Falcon or the Timber Wolf would be the best or at least my favorite to playstyle.

I think the best early pet is the Thunderift Falcon. For 6 or 7 mana, you get a 1 armor, 8 health creature with flying and 4-5 dice. He's also great as a bait since if the opponent kills him you can easily bring out another one for cheap or get out a pet wolf while they "waste" time killing your pet falcon.

Anything that gives the Wolverine more life is good for the Wolverine. I'm finding some real success with joined strength on a pet Wolverine.

Yes, heals cost me my rage tokens. No, why would I need to heal it?
