Vampirism & Reverse Attack
« on: December 15, 2014, 01:05:15 PM »
Hi all, dear priestesses and mages.

I come with a stupid question that created a little debate in my group. In our late game, having Vampirism in my mage, I attacked a rival mage with a hidden Reverse Attack enchantment. As it was revealed, I embarrassingly hit myself. And here comes the question:

Can I vampirice myself, healing half of the damage I inflicted in my poor flesh?

I think the rules support that but my so called friends didn’t let me do it, telling nonesense garbage about antithematic.

First what would happen is your mage attacks.

The applicable damage would be applied to you mage as well as conditions.

You check to see if you survive hitting yourself.

If you survive the attack, you then heal from the vampirism.

V10lentray is 100% correct. You would only be unable to heal from Vampirism if the damage was enough to kill yourself.

Were your "so-called friends" relatively inexperienced players? Did they have any easy way to check on hand?

My guess is 1. Yes, 2. No, and that they were thinking of typical vampirism that drains blood, rather than the kind in mage wars which strikes directly at the life force, which might be why they got confused about it. After all, regular vampires can't drain themselves.

I am Sailor Vulcan! Champion of justice and reason! And yes, I am already aware my uniform is considered flashy, unprofessional, and borderline sexually provocative for my species by most intelligent lifeforms. I did not choose this outfit. Shut up.

Thank you all!

We're new players, but I have now a copy of the The Official Mage Wars Rules Supplement where our question is answered in page 45.

"the kind in mage wars which strikes directly at the life force"
You've got a point there. Thanks!
