Dawnbreaker Ring
« on: August 12, 2012, 09:42:03 PM »
i have va question concerning the dawnbreaker ring.  do spells count as ranged attacks for purposes of this?  so a priestess wearing a dawnbreaker ring would add 1 die to all her ranged spell attacks?

EDIT meaning all her holy ranged attack spells.

Lets look at the types of spells section in the rule book.

This is the section for  Attack spells

Pay close attention to the last line.
Attack Spells are always ranged attacks.

Klaxus:  The short answer is yes.

The ring grants the Melee +1 and Ranged +1 traits for all of the Priestesses attacks which deal light damage.

Essentially, that adds 1 die to each of her attacks, which could be a weapon that deals light damage (like her Staff of Asyra), or an attack spell like Pillar of Light.

Note that the Melee +1 and Ranged +1 traits have certain restrictions.  For example, Ranged +1 does nothing for a zone attack.  So if the Priestess casts Blinding Flash, the attack does not gain an extra die for each object in the zone.

Thank you Bryan for adding to what I posted. I planned on filling in the extras but I see you got it covered. I was going to do it during lunch tomorrow but you saved my the time.

nice nice i was guessing that was the case (as it made the most sence) it seems this game is very natural in its rules.

Btw it is not the only ring you will find in the world of Etheria There is all kinds of equipment available throughout the world including some other rings..

Does heals gain 1 dice with the ring ?
I think not... but I ask anyway

But a Cleric can heal instead of attacking, it's in the same presentation of his attack, so a cleric with "Ranged +1" make one more dice when healing or not ?

i believe it was mentioned elsewhere that healing is not considered an attack, ro ranged bonuses and the ring do not affect healing/

being that most healing spells do not have an attack bar is the reason. the only card that I can find that has an attack bar that can transition into healing is the asyran Cleric But that attack bar is brown which Arcanus said the significance of the different color is that it was not an attack. Grey-> Attack, Brown-> ability
