I saw reference to Mage Wars tournaments - would that be Arena or Academy or both?  My eldest son expressed an interest in going to one if it is Arena format.  If they are being run would any be in the vicinity of Waterloo, Ontario (not far from Toronto or Hamiliton or London, Ontario if those are locations that might have something going on)?

Erik many tournaments are Arena though some Academy events do occur. I'm not in the know of whats going on in your area but your friendly local gaming stores should be able to at least help you start some up if none are around.

What we must all remember is no matter the game we were all newbies at one point.

In terms of location, not sure about Ontario and Quebec. I know that there is an interest in the french community in Laval, but there isn't a community in Montreal as far as I know. There might be a group near Ottawa, although I'm not 100% certain.

Good to hear they are in Ontario, but Ottawa is about 6 hours away!  I was hoping for something a little closer!  Is there some site or the like that lists where these events are being held by chance?

Well, you can search the forums. I recommend this one and BoardGameGeek and any Ontario-based sites (like TABScon, etc). Also look for groups on Meetup.com and Facebook.

There have been events in Southern Ontario in the past.  You might want to check with the people who organized them.

So I have not seen anything local on the forums, saw your stuff going on in Ottawa on BGG (why are you so far away!), I have signed up for the TABS site to see if there is any MW love in TO, there are a few stores who say the have some MW support but no activity on their sites for the game (far side of TO and up in Hannover of all places).  I really thought to see some activity in at least Toronto which is not too far away!

Yea, unfortunately Canada doesnt have a very active board game community like the US. While we have a few communities around major cities, we're nothing compared to our neighbours who have more events.

Ps: Canadian board game companies like Gladius International don't make the best of games, so they don't create as strong of a brand loyalty, nor do they increase attention towards their games.
