Tanky Priestess deck, 1st attempt
« on: September 22, 2014, 10:42:06 AM »
Hi all guys!
This is my first post....and my first deck played agains a friend of mine.
I havent read lots of posts yet, so i dont know if this is the nest way to play the Priestess, but it's just a way a suppose ;)
The idea is simple, use Guardian Angels to attack my opponent and/or his creatures while i can build a Tank-Mage, and then close with Ranged Attacks (Archers, Acid Balls and Flameblasts) or Melee attacks (Knight of Westlock, Bridge Troll, Bear Strength)...others cards are in for utility.

Here the deck list (how can i write it in the forum and make it appear as the "scroll style"?)

Spellbook points: 120 used of 120 allowed

1 Priestess

---  Attack  ---
2 Acid Ball
2 Flameblast

---  Conjuration  ---
1 Battle Forge
1 Hand of Bim-Shalla
2 Mana Crystal

---  Creature  ---
1 Bridge Troll
3 Guardian Angel
1 Knight of Westlock
2 Royal Archer

---  Enchantment  ---
2 Rhino Hide
2 Regrowth
3 Nullify
2 Healing Charm
3 Block
2 Bear Strength
1 Divine Intervention
1 Divine Protection
1 Harmonize

---  Equipment  ---
1 Dragonscale Hauberk
1 Enchanter's Ring
1 Leather Boots
1 Leather Gloves
1 Regrowth Belt
2 Veterans Belt
1 Wand of Healing
1 Staff of Asyra
1 Sunfire Amulet
1 Elemental Cloak

---  Incantation  ---
2 Dispel
2 Dissolve
2 Force Push
1 Knockdown
2 Piercing Strike
1 Purify
2 Seeking Dispel
1 Teleport
2 Minor Heal

I've played against a Core set Id Warlock with several curses. I countered Adramelech in turn 2 with Divine Intervention and then i summoned 2-3 creature while my opponent was running over the arena to save himself from my attacks. I got some problems with his walls and Helm of Fear and the game was so very long but at the end I won this match...
Some advice to improve the deck, to implement some addition to make it better?
Thx in advance

Hello first welcome to the arena! This looks like a solid little Priestess build. You often see Guardian Angels rotate protecting and fighting so that's good. You can probably get some mileage out of a Cheetah Speed or two so as to get your heavy hitters out there across the board faster.  You actually probably don't need the Wand of Healing as you got two Minor Heals and can mimic it's other effect with the Priestess natural ability. On the whole though this looks good.

If you can squeeze in the crown of protection you can make the Bridge Troll pretty scary with armor tokens. Rhino hide can (and probably will) be dispelled but armor tokens are forever. May be worth considering a second Bridge troll if you do. Pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Easy, guys.. I put my pants on just like the rest of you -- one leg at a time. Except, once my pants are on, I win Mage Wars!

Hey there!
This is a pretty solid book for being a new player. Just had a few questions.
1) why the two veterans belts? Seems like being a priest you wouldn't really need 2!
2) why 2 piercing strikes? I think your dissolves and acid balls should solve the same problem.
3) do you need a purify? The priestess ability is pretty good.

The biggest problem I see is closing the game. A lot of times I find a hurl boulder or some other quick spell is a great way to deal that last 6 damage or so needed to close the game out. That's more personal flavor though and may not be needed for a tanky book.

Glad to hear you won your game!

Thanks for all suggestions guys!
I was already thinking about some cards to prevent opponent mage to run away from me or my creatures, so Cheetah Speed or some walls will join the deck ;)

For the equipments I use 2 Veteran's Belt just for enemy's dispel, and i really want that belt for the armor stacking concept. In addition I will test Crown of Protection instead of Rhino Hide, and I will drop Wand of Healing (played but never used).

I need also to fix my incantations: in the first moments I included 3 Piercing Strike, then I drop 1 of theese, but in the game I dind't use this card, so i can drop it and include 1 Purge Magic (my forgetfulness)

I'll let u know if it will work :D
