This is explained in the FAQ. The key to remember is the difference between phase and round or stage. The mage losses at the end of the phase that they died. During the action phase this means as soon as the creature finishes acting. Magebane is another way you could have a tie.

Lol, it wouldn't have made a difference to the standings any way I don't think. I just got excited when you said tie because it is so rare. Letting the mage continue after death would make it less so though, hehe.

I'm tired, exhausted after running a 4 1/2 event. I can see the point you're making, but we're still gonna rule it like this I'd wager in future events. Makes the game more interesting.

That's fine. I wasn't really trying to make a point, just clarify a rule. There's nothing wrong with playing a house rule or variant. The important thing is that everyone has fun. And it sounds like you ran another amazing event! I'm sure everyone had a blast.

Found new players we hadn't met yet. Taught some Mage Wars. All in all this goes into the win column.

Sounds like another very successful event. I must admit I'm a bit jealous at the great group of people you have to play with :P

Is there any way we can get the winning spellbook (if they're willing to share it), and a general strategy they implemented? I'd like to keep a record of event-winning spellbooks and strategies for people to use as resources to get better.

My Lord of Winter I shall most certainly post the winning spell books....once I've rested some :P I love running events but they're almost as draining for me as the folks who played 3 back to back matches. You should see those books tonight.

I will say this the Force Master player John, he finished his first two opponents off in less than 30 minutes each! I mean he just opened up a MASSIVE can of aggro right off the bat. Against Joes Priestess he destroyed the Temple of Asyra almost immediately and made her play super defensive while getting out creatures the old fashioned way.

[mwcard=mw1i07]3 x  Dissolve[/mwcard]
[/spells]
[cost]Total cost: 118 pts[/cost]
[/spellbook]

To say it's bold is an understatement in my eyes. No he doesn't pack armor because as he says "the other mage will and I have Steal Equipement." I've personally fought this book twice now and lost with my Necromancer but neutralized it with my Air Wizard. Millie's Necromancer also fought it to a stand still last Friday.

Oh I forgot, this book also has two Walls of Force in it though I never saw them actually get cast. In terms of strategy I will also note that he protected that first Thoughtspore(which had a Force Hammer) remarkably well(for a Thoughtspore.) Usually with a Reverse Attack and then later a Block. Also one of the main strategies behind this book seemed to be making you waste your Dispels on stuff like Charm and one of the Force Crushes early on before Mind Controlling your creatures and hitting you with the second Force Crush. He'd Seeking Dispel + Dissolve regularly too so keeping it on a Mage Wand wasn't happening.

I forgot to reply until now, but thank you so much for posting this! I am curious how this spellbook had little issue with the Necromancer in the 2nd round. One would think that with practically all the Necro's creatures being psychic immune, the Forcemaster would have trouble defeating it, but you said that it beat the Necro in about 30 minutes, lol.

He focused on pure offense and just beat on the Necromancer. Dissolving the Libro Mortus really throws off a Necromancers tempo. Basically he made her play defensively the entire game. He was able to destroy her skeletons with the Thoughtspore using Force Hammer and save his mage for attacking the Necromancer directly.

Also tournaments are nerve inducing events sometimes. The Force Master player is just a more experienced gamer over all. That's not to say the Necromancer is a bad player, by no means is she. But she's new to board games in general. She actually beat the Force Master with the exact same books being played both each of them two days earlier.
