It would be the one and only exception....if it ruled no......
Where does my greatest enemy lie?
It has been around since the dawn of time,
it follows your loved ones as well as mine,
takes the form of a mountain as well as a flower,
it cannot be outrun by the greatest of power.

My question would be if the answer was no...where are there feet then? To me it feels like a no would break the reason they (The Caltrops) would work in the first place. Would the summoning and the materialization of their feet cause the caltrops to melt?

Well, if you look at the cover of the rules book, you see a wizard summoning a hydra....maybe that aetheral circle that they are being summoned from just kinda pushes the caltrops out of the way and......they get use to the caltrops like how when you first get into a hot bath and after a bit start to like it and......... ......... ........... .............. ............. :S ............... ............... ...........

Hot baths make people suffer from what I like to call 'monkey syndrome' - as you make ooo ooo ooo, aaa aaa aaa noises when attempting to sit in it.

The reason it would not include summoning would be for balancing. I some cases theme can take precedents  in other cases the rules should take precedents. I voted I favor of the rule overriding the theme for balancing reasons.

I guess you could think of it as reality being altered to create the summoned creature, so the caltrops are destroyed right where the creature appears. Imagination - it's easy when you know how!

I hate to necro a thread, but I couldn't find another relevant one. When last we left off, according to Shadow, the design team was discussing the issue though most had voted that "Summoning does not count as entering the zone." I would like to know if that is the final answer reached as far as an official answer goes?

We should see an FAQ about the time of the DvN release
