Can I play Force Push to move my own mage in a direction of my choice?

Yes. 
The spell force push allows you to move the target 1 zone in a direction of your choice.  So you get to pick the direction of the "thrust"

Very nice with a Wall of Thorns, though not with one's own Mage...
