Spawnpoint question
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:55:26 PM »
I looked around but didn't see an answer. It is stated about spawnpoints
Quote
Spawnpoints cast spells the same way your Mage does, using the target and range shown on the spell. Always count range from the Spawnpoint (instead of your Mage). The Spawnpoint must spend its own mana first (by removing mana counters). If the Spawnpoint does not have enough mana to cast the spell, you must pay the difference from your Mage’s Mana Supply. You control all spells cast by your Spawnpoints.

It must spend its own mana first, however does it have to spend ALL its mana first. Had someone have a temple (which you must have at least 2 mana on it before you can cast a creature). He had 6 mana on it, but only used 4 from the spawnpoint and the rest from the mage, so that if he wanted next turn he could cast something else, because it only gained 1 mana per turn. Because the rule doesn't say ALL we let it go. Which is right?

Cheers

Yes...you must use all of the mana from the spawn point first.

Mage Wars Rules Book
Chapter 5-Spells-Conjurations-Spawnpoint Side Bar.

The Spawnpoint must spend its
own mana first (by removing mana counters). If the
Spawnpoint does not have enough mana to cast the
spell, you must pay the difference from your Mage’s
Mana Supply. You control all spells cast by your
Spawnpoints.

EDIT: Its only if the spawnpoint does not have enough mana, that you may pay the difference from your mages mana supply.

You have to spend all of the mana from the spawnpoint first. You make up the difference with mana from your mage.

It does make sense. But do you see without it saying "Spawnpoint must spend ALL its own mana first" it can be taken either way? They won't get away with that next time. Thanks for the response.

Agreed!  It should say ALL to be safe.  We'll add it to the FAQ and put it on the next print run.

The concept behind this is that some spawnpoints are less efficient.  For example we did not want all Mages to be able to summon as fast or as well as The Warlord and Beastmaster. The Wizard in particular may have to wait 3 rounds sometimes in between summoning.

Of course, you can always use Harmonize to get the extra mana required to summon more frequently!
