The Spellbind ability allows a mage to change the spell bound in and object with one from his spell book. This may be obvious, but I thought I would check:
What happens to the replaced spell? Is it put back in the book or is it discarded?

It goes back to your spellbook.

The answer is at the bottom of the "Spellbinding" sidebar on page 25 in the rules.
