Strategist helm + halberd + attack spells ?
« on: November 04, 2017, 10:57:09 AM »
Ok if I have the strategist helm + ivarium halberd can I give myself a range +1 battle orders for free and cast a hurl rock to gain it for that attack?  I don't see non spell range attacks anywhere unless I'm missing it.

You can totally do the combo you are describing! The only thing is that it will cost 1 mana to use battle orders.

Right free action not mana wise unless u have the cape or ring.  Cool very sweet.

Next question which do u guys prefer bloodwave or anvil throne?

I'm leaning anvilthrone bc of the piercing two plus the runes will make it harder to dissolve gear.  The piercing two is awesome against conjurations too.

Bloodwave all day. I love creatures and the barracks economy and he's the best at it.

Anvil Throne for the win! Get your gear and make it cooler!

I think the tough -2 and fast order make the anvil throne a great contender! Runes are just the cherry on top of it all. I like bloodwave more though because of his better synergy with lvl 1 and 2 creatures (vet) and he is an orc...peraonal flavor.  I think i just got burnt out from seeing so many dwarfs being played that i started playing the orc more and i find hos play styles much more enjoyable!

Orc = Ranged + 1 - I have been playing around with this, steep hill and other bits to make a powerful rushball style book.

Dwarf = Tough -4 - This plus other parts of the war school make this a very powerful high armor book.

Veteran's Belt is superior to Colossus Belt, especially for a high armor mage.

Agree.
Also, the fact that tempered faulds are in the game makes stacking tough a bit unnecessary, especially since its already difficult to hit anvil throne with them.

I disagree. Tempered Faulds is to be used as well as Tough, not instead of it.

A tough -4 Dwarf Warlord from the above combo with an elemental cloak, and a raincloud will make a fireball -4 dice and -8 to the effect dice. This is more likely than anyone thinks with a Battle Forge and Gear Up in existence.

This makes the adjusted attack bar [Ranged] [Flame] [Dice=2] [Effect= [12=1 Burn]

From here you have 8.33(r)% chance of hitting a burn. Not amazing but doable. Lets represent this mathematically, where the defender has the re-roll active and will use it to re-roll a result when it is successful.

The initial chance for the attacker of scoring a burn P(A) = 1/12 = 8.3(r) %

However on a reroll is becomes 1/114, as the initial 12 is ignored due to the triggered reroll. This equals 0.00694444 or 0.7%.

Versus without extra tough or Flame minus, as this a reasonable extension of your argument, adjusts a Fireball to:

[Ranged] [Flame] [Dice=6] [Effect= [8-12=1 Burn] ]

P(A) = 76.39 %
P(B) = 8/114 = 0.0701754 or 7.01754 %

This is not only 10 times more likely to occur but is very close 1/12 chance not re-rolled. I know which I prefer!

I think I might have been unclear or that you misunderstood my argument.

I wasn't arguing that rerolling the effect die would be advantageous compared to having a Colossus Belt.

All I said or meant to say was that I preferred having a Vet belt instead of the Colossus Belt since the vet belt works against all attacks and Colossus only vs effects. This combined with the Warlord legs that let you re-roll effect die while not losing out on the armor feels like an overall better combo in my eyes.

Ah I see, you made two separate statements there, each with its own line. This said to me that you were making different statements about the single topic, not a continued statement.
