Paladin spell cost calculation

Hi,

working on adding PvS to my spellbook builder and just wanted to clarify something.

When Paladin uses level 4 non-creature Holy spell, how much does it cost?

8 points (2 per level)
or
5 points (1 per levels 1-3, 2 for level 4)

Yes 8. You are never part-trained in something - it either falls inside your training or it doesn't.

To give another example - a Druid is Trained in Level 1 Water spells.  A Level 2 Water spells costs them the full 4pts the same as everyone else.

Well, a beastmaster is partially trained in bridge troll. A warlord is partially trained in bridge troll as well.
In the case of a mage who is trained in "Holy 3", he will indeed not be trained at all in Resurrection. But as a rule, "never part-trained in something" is just wrong.

Your training either fully applies, or doesn't apply at all to each school of magic in a spells makeup. You can't count some levels as trained, and the rest untrained.

I remember the training rule as school based and not level based. So you check each school of the spell and determine whether you are trained or not. The determination of trained or not trained may be based on levels within a school, but the resulting spellpoint cost is calculated using that determination for all levels of that school icon on the spell. So for mixed school spells you can be partially trained when calculating total spell point cost , but not for single school spells as clarified above.
