Rise Again - Arraxian Crown Warlock
« on: February 04, 2017, 12:08:35 PM »
Straightforward Arraxian Crown Warlock Strategy :

Use two heavy hitting creatures ( Mage & Blood Reaper ) to focus down opposing mage.

If any living opposing creatures show up in your path, turn on them and bring them over to your side as zombies using Rise Again ( QC right before eliminating them ) and put the curse back into your book to reuse.
Build yourself an army this way and overwhelm the opposition.

Get the Warlock ready for battle asap using Battleforge.
Equip him with Lash and Flameblast Wand.
Summon Bloodreaper + Rouse the Beast after engaging first.

Two creatures with at least 8 attack dice and Piercing +3 can take out most opposing creatures in 1 round.

Vampirism and various other healing effects give Mage and Blood Reaper exceptional staying power.

Just finished my own Warlock, stepped into the Arena waiting for a brave opponent!

Much is the same.

Creatures the biggest diffence:

Mhegeddon
Malacoda
Goran the Werewolf Pet
Drokkar
Sanguine Hunter x2

Putting that much creatures in naturally gives me a lot less elsewhere.

1 point of difference is that i prefer Mage Staff for Lash of Hellfire. Not a propper Warlock?

Good point.

I currently miss ethereal damage and with 3 lashes available I can easily replace one with a Mage Staff.
I prefer the Lash though for its higher damage output through the burns.

Why specifically did you pick Malacoda, Goran and Drokkar ?
I picked the DPS as a second because he's just good overall for this job but maybe there are situations you're thinking of where one of your three creatures would suit me better.

Drokkar is new and fresh - im not even sure how grapple works. #1 candidate for Bloodreaper.

Malacoda is good and old. His not easy to get to work. With regrowth and Sunfire Amulet i should be able to stay in his zone. I have him as a counter to multible creatures. Ring of Fire might be better and simpler. I do have a soft spot for Malacoda.

Goran the Werewolf Pet is also good and old. I don´t even remember using him in the old core set days. Basic plan is to go up and Melee with the other mage. Goran seems perfect for that.

I like Dark Pact Slayer better than the Blood Demon - high armor might be trouble. I know Critical Strike is out - havnt really got around to put it into books or use it.

Had a match today on OCTGN. Perfect matchup with lots of living creatures. Was an uphill battle vs Paladin.
Could have done better, but really tuff.

I have some differences in the OCTGN book, my live book and how the book looks on paper.

Still think a Warlock like your or mine will have a very difficult time vs non-living creatures or no creatures at all, especially if people put Dragonscale Hauberk x4, Elemental Cloak x4, Raincloud, Waterfall Cloak etc.

Luckely im starting to see all other kinds of armor out there.

So 4 Fireballs might still be good :)

Good deck!

Keep in mind that siren´s call can easily nullify your partner, so an mindless alternate pal could be considered...

Also, don´t you like sectarus? It seems like a good action advantage...

Yes, but not necessarily.
Bloodthirsty is one of the Traits that can let you work around Siren's Call.
They both call for mandatory actions, so if you get a damaged living creature in your Reaper's zone or in the zone who's on your way to the Siren you can still pretty much do what you intended to do anyway.

so a mindless alternate pal could be considered

Yes, I've been looking for a Psychic Immune Demon, but I think there aren't any. ;)
Correct me if wrong, please.

Also, don´t you like sectarus? It seems like a good action advantage

Yes, I like Sectarus but that would require a totally different build imo
I would need to add a significant amount of "pro active" Curses like Magebane and Ghoul Rot and at least one back-up Sectarus.

The curses I have in the book are more reactive curses, like Theft of Life in case the enemy mage starts regenerating, Rust if he puts on an armor, Poisoned Blood when you expect he'll start healing.

The most important curse, Rise Again is something I would obviously not put on Sectarus.
If you kill the creature, you can't cast Rise Again anymore and if you don't kill the creature Rise Again is left hanging there and can be Seeking Dispelled.
Imo Rise Again really needs to be played out of hand as a QC right before you finish off a creature as you want to take as little as possible risk of losing it.

Reply to Biblo's post coming later. Running a little late here ;)

Just wanna say you can use Rise Again on your own creatures. Mind immune Demon right there :)
