Druid spellbook help
« on: September 13, 2015, 08:44:34 PM »
Hello everyone, so I wanted to try and build my first book without any help. I decided to try my hand at a druid build and would love some feedback. What I am trying to do is summon creatures and use Fellella to help cast enchantments on the creatures that I cast. I am still new at the game of mage wars so any advice is appreciative .

Where does your Vine Tree come into play with this strategy?

When i go druid and fellella, I always treebond a mohtari midgame. I could try to dig up that book if you like. Vinetree may not get enough mana to be useful?

fellella(+her enchants) +vinetree(+its spells)+tataree+2 mana flower is too much initial mana. Especially if you throw in an enchantable creature like galador.

I have a book very much like this that uses WoT, and cervere. Couple things I might be able to help with, I hope anyway.

1. The corrosive orchids are nice but I don't know that you Will use more than one, pull one and add dissolves instead, so cheap and late game your opponent can probably ignore them, plus they are mana heavy and tricky to use effectively.

2. I would switch one of those lion savagery to a bear strength unless you really need the piercing 1. None of your critters are naturally elusive and an undoer Will remove the bear strength before the savagery especially if he's not running away, that's just preference though.

3. Find room for a Hawkeye. If you plan on using that elemental wand to great effect (repeatedly) adding one more die to those smaller attack spells like acid ball or surging wave goes a long way!

4. Tataree as much as I love this creature, is fairly useless for what you pay to have it. One push into a wall or unavoidable attack and its really dead. A curse AC warlock will happily ghoul rot it and get the card back in 2 turns. I've played it so many times only to wish I had 3 more SP worth of enchantment. Tataree equals 3 acid Balls! I'd much rather have that, or one lvl one and a harmonize, which does most of the butterflys job, but better.

5. The regrowth belt and the barkskin are as odds. Barkskin does it better every time, so maybe grab a cheap leather belt if you've got the promo, or leather boots or gloves, or another enchantment, maybe regrowth since your pixie can help get that out for you.

6. This is more a question than a comment, I really think 6 points worth of akiros favor is a huge commitment for this mage, I'd really like to know what you need them for or ever both of them for.

That stuff aside I really like it! Please tell us how it works out! Hope I was helpful, the druid is my absolute favorite mage! Have fun!

Yes I was. Good catch! Sorry I was writing on my phone waiting for work to end. But I still don't think tattaree works very well and he's much more useful not being in the book. I mean he breaks guards, till you roll a 1 or a 2. Then he dies. Plus I find that with the butterfly out people try to take my tree down harder, and if they succeed he becomes dead weight. Anything that draws more hate to something as important as that tree can most likely wait unless it's game plan essential.

One more thing, you've got wall of thorns but no force pushes. Are you looking to have surging waves do your wall pushing for you? It's valid just a little trickier and only works less than half the time. Maybe consider one or two unless you only have them to block los

Hey!  If you want more accurate feedback I would suggest giving us ur calculated opener(s) with the deck and how you aim to play it.

I'm a bit new to Mage Wars but I'll give you my views on your deck.

I assume you're going to play Vine tree + something on turn one. Since you do not have the Druid's Leaf Ring. I assume you either cast a creature or another conjuration. And after that you react to how of the opponent plays.

your cards:

Attack
I like Geyser vs hugin/battleforge/remove burns.
I do not agree with x2 Surging Wave, I'd keep 1 instead of 2.

I'd like to see you use Forcehammer/Hurl Boulder so that you have a solid way of chipping down conjurations you consider high value targets. Like the Wizard's Tower, Death Lock, Idol of Pestilence, Ballista.

Conjurations
x5 tangle vine
I do not agree with 5, I'd use something like 3 or 2 since you've a stranglevine and most opponents will not run more than 2-3 Teleports. If your aim is to make sure they do not move!

Creature

I believe you should've Cervere(fast, elusive, Defens roll) in your deck if your aim is to  run an aggressive buff druid.

Fellella, Pixie Familiar
If you run Aggro druid, I dont think you should use Fellella. Because you'll need every action to get some early pressure, sure she could be usefull later but I'd rather see you use ur mana for dispells/dissolves once you feel like you've the upperhand.

Galador, Protector of Straywood.
I'm not sure about this card. I've used him with Cervere myself in an aggro druid deck that has worked very well but most of the time Galador didn't really feel worth it. I'd rather have Steelclaw Grissly instead, it's only when you want to punish panzerguard this card really feels worth it. Getting a stun is amazing but it's 10+ so I can never count on it.

Thornlasher
I think this could be a really good choice to add. Since I assume you want to set up tons of creatures in the other mage's zone and keep him there. Thornlasher could work like a forcepush each round if he's not elusive and wants to run away but also a good way yo get around guard if you want to get a finnishing blow on something and you don't have an elusive creature on the board.

Enchantments
Lion Savagery x3
I think this is a huge waste of mana ingame since you do not have a creature that's both fast and elusive! I would only use x1 in my deck. I would recommend Cervere for maximum use of this buff else it's very situational and therefore not worth having x3.

Cheetah Speed x2
I've been tempted to run some Cheetah builds but I can't see myself ever using more than one. If you're spam buffing ur creatures you're so far ahead it would be better to do something else with ur quick.

Mongoose Agility x2
I can understand two of these but feels like you won't play two in a game that you're behind in and therefore it feels more of a I've won card.

Akiro's Favor x2
Rerolling is great but having two of these feels overkill, expensive for the book + using it to buff creature means  it's usually the last buff you apply. Which means u already kinda won if you can apply it a second time.

Rhino Hide x3
Great druid card, just dont think you'll ever need 3. I'd go with 1 or 2.

Since you're running a buff deck I assume you want to take 1 creature out make him big and see him shred the opponent appart. I great way to make sure all of these actions you've spent buffing ur creature isn't wasted is to use Enchantment Transfusion. Aslong as you stay 0-2 range of ur creature you can swap the desired buff(buffs) to another creature of ur choice for a small cost. Running this card instead of the other buff cards I've listed would open up a lot of spellbook points for other stuff that I consider more usefull.

With an Aggro deck I'd suggest running atleast one or two jinxes and poison bloods. Clutch healing on something you want to die is always annoying and having more actions than your opponent when you're ahead is always great :)

Equipment

Regrowth Belt
I understand why you'll want to include a regrowth belt since it's 6mana for 2 regen however I always end up using Barkskin whenver I get focused and since regen doesn't stack I would never get the chance to use Regrowth belt in a way I feel it's worth to have it in my deck.

Elemental Wand
Is a great tool but I feel like if you are only running those spells it wont be worth casting.
If you add a Hurlboulder/Forcehammer I can see use for the wand however I highly doubt it.

Depending on ur playstyle I would suggest adding a Mediation Amulet and Druid's Leaf Ring. On one of my aggressive druid decks that I've been using this opener:
R1 19Mana  Druid's Leaf Ring > Vine Tree
R2 19Mana  Mana flower/Rouse the beast > Cervere

Mage Wand
The mage wand is great when you're ahead and the opponet shouldn't be able to dissolve it fast.

Incantation
3 x Burst of Thorns seems a bit to much when you're running Elemental Wand.
I'd use 1 or 2.

Dispel.
I'd use 3-4. If you're ahead you want to remove dmg barriers like Circle of Lightning and other annoying Enchantments from ur target.

Dissolve
I would run atleast 3. Makes you able to take care of their potential wands/armors with ur Corrosive Orchid aviable to catch them offguard if needed.

I think that adding a heal would be a good way to make sure your buffed creature stays alive. Combining this with a mage wand could be really good if you've the actions and the spellbook points aviable.

This is just some thoughts I've looking at the deck but seems like a solid deck and you'll have loads of fun with it :)

I'm a bit tierd so sorry for any potential spelling errors.

@ Drefan, you make a bunch of references to Moktaris branch in your post, by chance are you referring to the other druid ring? Moktaris branch lets you heal and remove conditions from plants. And it's almost useless lol. I'm betting that you're referring to the Druids leaf ring.

I totally agree with you on almost everything but allow me just a thing or two.
1, rhino hide, I don't know if it's my local meta( likely) but I find that this card is super useful with the Druid in particular. So much so that the one he is likely to apply to the druid herself will be dispelled. Also Fellela and all of his plant creatures need one, at least Kralathor and the raptor vines and one for the mage. Plants are super squishy and even 2 armor turns them all into regenerating tanks.

2 Fellela, I totally agree with her use, just get her out before your first major threat hits, that way she can immediately cast something useful for the 1 mana it will cost. A bull endurance and a rhino hide and she's a tougher nut to crack than she seems. I've even ( don't ever do this! It was late game, late night, and a goldilocks situation, that was still a bit of a stretch. Seriously I still laugh about it) but bear strength on her and she single handedly killed a decent threat ( invisible stalker, incorporeal) all by herself! She's crazy useful, just get the use fast before they realize how awesome she is and push her into a wall.

@RomeoXero
You're correct. I'm talking about Druid's Leaf Ring.
I do not know how I mixed them since I've never used Moktari's Branch.

Force Push

With 3 Acid Balls, 2 Rust and 2 Wall of Thorn´s its just to good in this spellbook.

Besides Force Push has other uses than the old Wall of Thorns push.
