this is the first time i will play the anvil warlord, so i will try to play the most obvious scenario : getting out Talos.
the idea is to put the tower in NC , barracks in my starting corner and constructing yard in the opposing corner, to have the 3 outposts operational.
i would try to put a goblin slinger - i think the crossbow guy is just a bit too expensive to allow my build up -  in the tower to give my side of the arena some protection. After that i would builld the AOD, and try to survive until Talos can come out ! You guys think this has a chance of succeeding ? i'm a hesitating on the creatures, should i exchange the minotaur for another more efficient big creat ? i've included the hammer to deal with the priest's annoying conjurations ( temple of asyra, hand of BS)...

Any priest with half a brain runs battleforge, which means he's going to stack armor and dmg mitigation (via Vet belt, regen belt, bracers, etc).  If this happens your build is absolutely toast.

Here are my recommendations:

1).  Consider switching to Bloodwave Warlord, he's better with the Barracks strategy (aka, smaller creatures; aka aggro) because of Veteran.

2).  If you don't want to do #1, switch completely to a Battleforge based strategy.  The AT Warlord can easily become an unkillable tank very quickly by using a forge to give you actions.  Add in eisenach's forgehammer

3).  If you don't want to do #1 or #2, at least put in some acid balls.  That 1 flank attack and 1 power strike isn't going to do much to stick damage.  You need a way to reduce armor in an efficient way or your grunts/slinger will never do damage.  Goblin Alchemists may be able to suffice in this role, but considering how fast/easy it is to stack armor with a forge, I'm not sure.

Overall, I don't agree with this build.  You -might- be able to get out Talos against a Priest since the most straightforward build for a priest is aggro-control (not heavy aggro/lots of dice), but it's far from the most obvious or optimal strategy.  I would think the most obvious strategy was one that utilized your mages abilites, not a long-shot build that could be done better by a different mage  ???.

The way I see your game going is this:

1) Priest stacks armor/defense
2) You summon small creatures to buy time for Talos, cast rust on enemy mage
3) Priest targets your mage consistently, dispels rust, and either ignoring small creatures and/or blocking their attacks with HA Cleric or armor
4) Lose while you spend all your mana investing in something (Talos/Altar) that never pays off in time

Even if you -do- manage to get Talos out, you're likely going to have more dmg than the other mage, and he/she can just put down Deflection Bracers to block Talos' attacks and you have no perfect strike or falcon precision to do anything about it.

My favorite mages are the Priest and Warlord so I know how these fights go down.  You might be able to pull it off, but I'm highly doubtful considering the lack of certain staple spells  :-\

@ Arlemus

I don't see how this build automatically folds to Armor stacking. It doesn't have Acid Ball, but it has a Rust, 2 Goblin Alchemists, and 2 Dissolve. Plus there's always Battle Orders for Piercing. It could be better against Armor stacking, but it has some tools to deal with it. A couple of Goblin Alchemists can go a long way.

@ Pete2

Now, the inclusion of Akiro's Hammer is a little odd, and I think that you should either build towards Altar of Domination or Altar of Carnage and not both.

If you're going to work towards 2 Spawnpoints, include Meditation Amulet.

If you opt for Altar of Carnage, I would run Battle Forge, Barracks, and Gurmash, Orc Sergeant. That way you'll have something to put the mana from Altar of Carnage on even if your opponent kills off a spawnpoint.

If you're going to go for Altar of Domination, use the Barracks, take out the Battle Forge, and use the Bloodwave Warlord. Also keep in mind that Goblin Grunts and Goblin Slingers are less valuable in an Altar of Domination build than they are in an Altar of Carnage build.

I don't like the equipment distribution that much, and if you're going to run Elemental Wand, you should consider Acid Ball and Surging Wave as utility. Surging Wave isn't as good as Geyser for putting out Burns, but it's more generally useful. It's good against guards.

Add a few Orc Butchers. They're much tougher than Goblin Grunts, and they're still cheap enough to spam. That way you can use them as cheap guards in the face of aggression or as durable attackers against defensive opponents.

thanks for the advice you both...

i think i will melt together both of your tips :

i'm gonna go with the forge build from Arlemus..and add in the forgehammer again ! i think this will completely surprise my opponent..

i heard him say he would love to bring out the goblin alchemist or the unicorn as HA, and naturally he will like to buff his mage to come hitting at me with his light / burn damage...

i will include some orc butchers as sdougl2 proposed...i just saw that i included 2 conquers, where i wanted to add 1, so that will free up 4 points again...

i will also try to have barracks and Altar of C. out as sdougl2 mentionned...

and i will definitely add some acid balls ! and take out the "odd" akiro's hammer, another 3 points to spend more wisely !(does anybody run this anyway ?)
now it's up to me to figure out what i will cast the first couple of rounds !

so gurmash would be the best buddy in this build ? in the original prebuild they added sir corazin..should i've kept him rather than the minotaur ?
