This question basically boils down to the wording of restrained where it states the creature can not take any move actions. Does this wording refer only to the move action (game term) as defined in the codex? Or does it refer to any action that results in movement (other than Push or Teleport which are specifically mentioned as not being effected)? I suppose there is room for debate, but I think it is pretty obvious that they intended the latter to be the case and a restrained creature would not be able to climb.

Yes, that's exactly the point.
It's just that the agitator needed to make climbing work to survive and we didn't find a "convincing" rule wording -
and he likes to discuss :)

The situation :

Necromancer is standing in a zone bordered by [mwcard=MWSTX1CKW01]Wall of Steel  [/mwcard].
He is enchanted with [mwcard=FWE04]Force Crush [/mwcard] (Restrained) and is wearing [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ06]Eagleclaw Boots [/mwcard] (Climbing).

His intention :
As Iron Golems are approaching he sees the need to flee.

His argument :
Basically, what you described.
"Restrained prohibits 'move actions'. I do not take a 'move action' but a 'special action' which involves 'moving'.
'Moving' is not a game term/mechanic but only a description and therefore is not the same as a 'move action' so it is not prohibited by Restrained.

We all agree that it is CONCEPTUALLY and probably INTENDED to not work that way, but he kept insisting to 'play by the rules'.
Yea, he was desperate :) His Necro had a tough, very tough day.

As per the Complete Codex

Climbing is a special action that requires a move action.

When a creature is Restrained it can not take move actions.

This is how I would rule it
"Darth come prove to meet you are worthy of the fighting for your school in the arena and not just another scholar to be discarded like an worn out rag doll"

There is your official answer, gw. The almighty Shad0w has spoken.

Quote from: Codex
Climbing (Object Trait) Creature may take a special full action to climb over any Corporeal wall and move into the adjacent zone. If the wall has the Passage Attacks trait, it attacks the creature before it moves.

"and move into the adjacent zone" is thus interpreted as involving a move action into the adjacent zone. Climbing just lets you bypass the wall. Though things could be written a little clearer to avoid a debate such as this, I think it's intention is quite clear.

Yay thanks.

Two things to add:

One. I don't think there actually was a serious call for the situation to work. Drumming up a rules discussion over "weak rules" to graciously let fall in one's disfavor due to common sense probably just a backup face saving scheme incase of loss, like keeping track of lucky dice rolls.

Two. Climbing being available in the first place to kickstart this discussion/situation is gw's damn fault anyway for insisting to play wallpush cheese as main strategy. J'accuse! (Local metas are weird things)
