Block and Nullify

Can a mage reveal a BLOCK even if he is not being attacked to trigger an opponents NULLIFY?

I assume you mean you cast it on an enemy mage, then reveal it to trigger nullify.

This however, will not work (if I'm reading the codex correctly).

From the codex "If a mandatory or single use enchantment is revealed at any time other than the event for which it is supposed to trigger, it has no effect and is immediately destroyed."

Just cast decoy on them instead. Works much better  8)

Revealing an enchantment never triggers nullify, nor can nullify do anything to prevent it. Nullify only works when your opponent casts a spell targeting the creature enchanted with Nullify. Revealing is not the same as casting.

Also, as the previous poster said, if you reveal a mandatory enchant without its trigger occurring, it fizzles.

You could, however, cast block on an enemy mage in order force him to reveal nullify. As a previous poster said, better to use decoy, since it's cheaper in book points (unless you're playing forcemaster) and the block is actually useful for other things.

I've been thinking what might be a situation in which I might possibly want to use block in this manner. So far I've got the idea of casting block on a creature before putting it to sleep. Thus if there is a nullify it will pop when I cast block and I can still put it to sleep, but if there is not a nullify I can use the block to mess with any attempt to wake it up.

Have used it, and my opponent was very surprised.

I've played block on enemy creatures using mind-control heavy books. Although I guess they were my creatures at the time.
