I'm going to try out the Priestess
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:31:13 AM »
Ok so I haven't build a Priestess book yet but I figured I'd give it a go. Suggestions are welcome.

Equipment:

Crown of Protection
Dawnbreaker Ring
Dragonscale haulberk
Eagleclaw Boots
Elemental Cloak
Elemental Wand
Mage Wand
Ring of Asyra
Staff of Asyra
Sunfire Amulet

Creature:

Asyran Cleric(2)
Brogan Bloodstone
Gray Angel
Guardian Angel(2)
Highland Unicorn(2)
Royal Archer
Samadriel Angel of Light

Enchantment:

Divine Protection
Fortified Position
Harmonize
Healing Charm
Pacify(4)
Rhino Hide
Cheetah Speed
Sacred Ground

Conjuration:

Hand of Bim Shalla
Mana Crystal(2)
Mana Siphon
Temple of Asyra

Incantation:

Dispel(2)
Dissolve(2)
Renewing Rain
Seeking Dispel
Teleport(2)
Heal(2)

Attack:

Flameblast(4)
Pillar of Light(4)

As you can see I've never made a Priestess book before. It seems like I'm equipment heavy so maybe a Battleforge would be needed. A lot of the equipment is there in case I see certain tactics like the boots for a Force Master for example. Also why are all creatures so expensive? Can't Asyra maybe give her chosen a small discount? :) I see a lot of Priestess basically fortify and turtle but I'd like to be a little more aggressive if possible. Constructive ideas are welcome and much needed.

Most people will probably advise you to drop the Temple of Asyra. I personally like spawnpoints and they work okay in my local meta (if there is one yet ;) ), but I would suggest to put a lot of thought in any opening involving the Temple as it will take a lot of time to set it up properly. Also, the role of your Clerics should be clear right from the start (channelling mana at the beginning, then heal other creatures? Channelling only?).

I like the Flameblasts - a nasty little (and unavoidable) surprise. Four of them and four Pillars of Light seems a bit too much, though, considering that you use an Elemental Wand.

A few points:

--No Knights of Westlock?  They're like one of the Top Ten Creatures in the game.  I would have at least two, preferably three.  The Unicorn isn't really worth including more than one, either.

--Renewing Rain instead of Group Heal seems an odd choice, but I haven't used Rain enough to judge it.  However, if you're going with Rain, you should change your Mana Crystals to Mana Flowers so they can be healed.

--Fortified Position and Sacred Ground: If you're going for these enchantments, you sort of want to have ways of 'forcing' the opponent to come to you.  Maybe try to find room for an Ivarium Longbow, and/or add a second Royal Archer?  I would also recommend at least one Shift Enchantment, so you can move it to another zone if needed.

--Eight attack spells, four of them out of school, is too much imo.  I would change the four Flameblasts to two Fireballs or Lightning Bolts (or Hurl Boulders), and drop Pillar of Light to two at most.

--You really should include something besides the Unicorn to regenerate your mage, at least.  Regrowth and/or a Regrowth Belt.

--Don't don't don't plan to start your battle with a Harmonized Temple and two Clerics.  Never works unless your opponent is turtle-building as well, and even then it's not all that great.  My recommendation is to start with a Harmonized Temple, and then bring out something offensive/defensive and see how it goes from there.  Save the Clerics for turns where you don't have the 12+ mana required for like every other Holy creature so far available.

Other than that, looks pretty good.  Have fun with it!

You guys are right I should probably drop those Pillar of Light and put in a Regrowth Belt. I could probably drop a Unicorn and get a Knight of Westlock as well. That leaves me with 2 extra points so maybe a Shift Enchantment and a Minor Heal. This seems like it's going to be a very "busy" book. Maybe I should get a Bears Strength for my man Brogan?

Also wouldn't it be cool if Asyra had some martial monks?

I'm pretty sure Knight of Westlock is one of the top cards in the game.  Especially since the Priestess is so good at clearing conditions, I feel like my basic gameplan with her would be to churn out Knights.  I'd want 3-4x.

I also feel like I always want a Meditation Amulet in case I want to turtle-up and out mana an opponent.

I've rarely been impressed with Pacify.  At worst, they just set their guy to guard and it's hardly penalized.  Without a broader mana denial strategy, it just doesn't feel very effective.

I will agree the Pacifies were put in there as a "Lets see how this works" idea. I could probably do better removing them and the Mana Siphon to get some Nullify, Reverse Magic in here. Just to cover my bases anyway. If I'm not a Wizard I probably shouldn't mess with mana denial that much.

Wow you guys seem pretty adamant about the Knights. Ok I'll try and squeeze 1-2 more in. Should I drop the Gray Angel for one? I've seen that the Guardian Angels are really useful.

I got some friends coming over tomorrow. I'll ask my friend who's playing Druid and Necromancer if she'll take me on so I can hammer out this build and see how it works.

Really appreciate the advice gang.

I'm mostly going to echo things people have already said. The sacred ground + fortified position says you want to build a bunker. I'd have a total of 2 knights of westlock for defense and 2 royal archers to force the enemy to enter your bunker. Ivarium longbow on your mage won't hurt, but I don't think it's essential.  I'd include 2 shift  enchantments in case you need to move your bunker.

Made the adjustments that were recommended and a few of my own. Ran it last night against a Necromancer and it did very well actually. The early game saw me fortifying but the mid to late game was all about the offense. I was very pleased with the removing effects aspect in particular.
