Strategy and Tactics / Chant of Rage : the new Teleport

During the first years of MW's existence, Teleport has been the card that could wreck "turtle" or "Fortress" builds.
In the meantime, the power of Teleport has been recognised and some countermeasures have been released.

So, is it easier now to build up strongly in 1 zone ?

I'm not sure, as a new turtle-breaker has arrived : Chant of Rage.

Since this spell is Lvl1 Mind or Dark, the two mages to benefit from it the most imo are the Forcemaster and Arraxian Crown Warlock. Both can easily carry 4 of these for just 4 sbp's and seriously disrupt the opposing mage's build up. (I see the number of CoR's go up in my books any time I play anyway)
( Siren is the third mage that can use it cheaply as she is Trained in Songs )

Instead of having to take on the opposing stronghold head-on, you can instead "cherrypick" from among the opposing creatures and make them come to you. ( divide and conquer )
This is a "must-react-to" play for the opponent that is likely going to cost him at least as much mana and likely more sbp's than you put into it or risk losing the creature if he doesn't react to it.

This works smoothly for the FM + Alandell book I have.
You can even cast the Chant of Rage from far away through a Mind's eye and set up Alandell ( or even a Spore ) with the hate token.
Being so cheap sbp wise you can load up on Rages and repeat multiple times, potentially forcing the enemy out of Dispels which may come back to bite him later.

Another thing to consider is that the best counters to Chant of Rage also belong to the mind school with Clear Mind and Mind Shield.

Another potentially very strong strategy imo is to let Chant of Rage combo with Rise Again.
Curseweaving makes the Arraxian Crown Warlock the ideal Mage for this strategy.
Use Chant of Rage to bring opposing living creatures to you and your Reaper, kill them and bring them back as Zombies with Rise Again. Build yourself an army using your opponent's actions and creatures and bring them to your side.
4 Chant of Rage + 2 Rise Again costs only 10 sbp's for an AC Warlock to include in his Spellbook.
Considering how powerful the combo can be, there's just no reason not to include it in your AC Warlock book, I think.

Straightforward Arraxian Crown Warlock Strategy :

Use two heavy hitting creatures ( Mage & Blood Reaper ) to focus down opposing mage.

If any living opposing creatures show up in your path, turn on them and bring them over to your side as zombies using Rise Again ( QC right before eliminating them ) and put the curse back into your book to reuse.
Build yourself an army this way and overwhelm the opposition.

Get the Warlock ready for battle asap using Battleforge.
Equip him with Lash and Flameblast Wand.
Summon Bloodreaper + Rouse the Beast after engaging first.

Two creatures with at least 8 attack dice and Piercing +3 can take out most opposing creatures in 1 round.

Vampirism and various other healing effects give Mage and Blood Reaper exceptional staying power.

Mind's Eye is an incredible gift to any FM player.
It allows you to keep your Thoughtspores out of harm's way and gives your spells a potentially arena-wide range.

Thoughtspores were good but fragile before, now they have become scary good :).

Another card that is straight up the FM's alley is Alandell, the Blue Knight.
Very high sbp cost ( 15 ) but very much worth it imo.

Alandell with an Akiro's Favor ( + 4 mana ) has a 75% Stun chance.
That's incredibly high and has major potential.
Focus this on the opposing mage and you can take away his full casts ( creatures ) and attack spells 75% of the time.
Force Pull, Force Push, Teleport, Tanglevine, Mongoose Agility can all help you focus down the opposing mage.
Preventing the opposing mage from summoning Creatures and playing Attack spells keeps your own creatures in better health at the same time. So, double win.

At the same time a Dissolve-Thoughtspore can control any Equipment that hits the table and/or a Dispel-Thoughtspore can control the Enchantment game.

Force Hammer and Invisible Fist can deal with Conjurations.
Invisible Fist is excellent at taking out incorporeal conjurations ( ... like Mind's Eye :) )

Overall, I think the FM now has all the tools to play a "board control" book giving her exceptional control on what she allows to stay on the board and what not, while at the same time she can be pretty aggressive and put up a lot of pressure with Alandell.

PS There are so many enchantments the opposition will probably like to take out like Vampirism, Eagle Wings, Poisoned Blood, Akiro's Favor, Critical Strike, Falcon Precision etc and 3 Arcane Wards to protect them so that it is likely he may run out of dispel-abilities eventually.
At that point the Forcefield can be the game winner.

Target Line :
"Non-Flying Creature or conjuration"

Does the "Non-Flying" apply to creatures and conjurations both or only creatures ?
As it stands, it can be interpreted both ways.

In other words, can a Surging Wave target a Mind's Eye ? ;)
Intuitively, I'd say if SW can't target a flying creature it should also not be able to target a flying conjuration.

Situation :
A creature deals 4 damage and is subject to 2 effects : Eye for an Eye and Vampirism.

I'm assuming, since both effects happen to the same creature and at the same time I can choose the order in which they take affect, correct ?
So, I can choose to take the 4 damage first and then heal back up 2.

I think it goes like this but I'd like confirmation.

Example :
I have a FD Bear Strength with a FD Arcane Ward on it.
The opponent casts Seeking Dispel targeting the FD Bear Strength.

Q1
The Arcane Ward counters, "cancels the effects" and refunds the Seeking Dispel
and I can still reveal the Bear Strength ( should I choose to ) after the Ward resolved ?

Q2
Does the Arcane Ward trigger during the "Cast Spell" step ( step 1 of spellcasting ) or during the "counter spell" ( step 2 of spellcasting ).
Looking at the wording, AW triggers AND resolves during step 1 of the Seeking Dispel's casting.

General Discussion / Battle Orders

Is there any chance that the Warlord's ( and Gurmash's ability to call ) Battle Orders would ever be changed from being a Quickcast Action to being a free, additional action ? ( with a mana cost of course and to be used once per round before or after friendly creature activation, just like some conjurations )

This would make Battle Orders actually being used/usefull imo.

Would there be any "broken" or "overpowered" consequences to this change ?

This may sound silly but I think it can be done ... competitively I mean.

Overall, I think having 6 Asps on board ( might be a bit much ) but would nevertheless be rather scary.
They can reduce any creature's amount of attack dice to 1 in just one round.
Very hard to kill the opponent when all your attacks roll no more than 1 die :)

Should be fun trying out.

Spells / Reveal Magic

It seems to me that this card could soon become a staple in most books, often replacing Seeking Dispel especially because it is a range 2 Novice card and it costs zero mana to cast.

There is a line though that is not quite clear to me, so let me repeat the text here first :

" Peek at target hidden enchantment. Once reveal Magic has been cast, the enchantment cannot be revealed this round. If it is a mandatory enchantment, then it is not destroyed if it would be forced to be revealed this round"

Let me see if I understand all of this correctly.

Example 1 : I play Reveal Magic on a FD Nullify on an enemy mage, thereby neutralizing the Nullify, then I successfully Dissolve an Equipment piece on that Mage. Is that correct ?

The Nullify cannot be revealed anymore this round once Reveal Magic was played against it but stays in play and becomes "active" again at the start of the next round.

The sentence I find confusing though is : "If it is a mandatory enchantment, then it is not destroyed if it would be forced to be revealed this round"

Can someone give me an actual example of a mandatory enchantment that is forced to be revealed this round after a Reveal Magic was played on it earlier that round, but is not destroyed ?

Suppose your Timber Wolf goes down and you've put a Second Chance on him but your opponent has put a Rise Again on him.

Which one works ?

I'm guessing the player who has initiative gets to go first and the other enchantment fizzles ... or not ?

Mandatory reveal after being attacked.
You may prevent up to 2 damage from that attack.

Question : can you choose which 2 damage ?
Like can I choose 2 critical damage to be prevented rather than 2 normal damage , cause I may still have a Brace Yourself on as well to block the rest of the normal damage.

With this card it's possible to block all damage and even heal up to 2 damage in the process.

All that in a lvl1 3 mana spell.

What's not to like ?
