General Discussion / Re: Arcane Duels - Domination 3 For All!!

That game was thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Definitely one of, if not the, best I've seen. The 'Deal with it' and shades on the Tigu was quality, ha ha!

I was just wondering, how long did the game last in it's entirety (pre-edit)? Taking into account that it is new, new rules etc.

Thanks for sharing it with us Arcane Duels. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing a 4 for all with Intangible!

Thanks for those interesting points Zuberi. They could come in useful.

It's a nice counter, providing the hidden [mwcard=MWSTX1CKE04]Enchantment Transfusion[/mwcard] is not targeted by [mwcard=MW1I24]Seeking Dispel[/mwcard].  Even so, unless the player is casting two [mwcard=MW1I24]Seeking Dispel[/mwcard]s on the same creature's enchantments, you save the [mwcard=MW1E01]Bear Strength[/mwcard] and lose the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKE04]Enchantment Transfusion[/mwcard].  Almost the same result, except that the [mwcard=MW1E01]Bear Strength[/mwcard] remains on the creature that it was cast on originally.

Rules Discussion / Bear Strength and Counterstrike
« on: June 26, 2015, 05:43:52 AM »
Hey guys,

I have read a lot about melee +x affecting only the first attack of a triplestrike etc.  It may exist and I just have not found it, though I have made a fairly decent search of the rulebook, supplement and forum, but I just want to clarify:

a) Does [mwcard=MW1E01]Bear Strength[/mwcard] grant a melee +2 to a creature's counterstike when guarding?

b) Does the [mwcard=MW1C09]Darkfenne Hydra[/mwcard] get the melee +2 from [mwcard=MW1E01]Bear Strength[/mwcard] when attacked when not guarding?

I'm not 100% sure but think that they do in both instances.

Thanks

I picked up the new Arena core set last week and have taken this picture for the good of this thread.  LordOfWinter had done enough with the card text, but for all of those who are visually inclined, behold the attachment!

Disclaimer:

Sorry, I don't know how to insert the image into the post.  Also, the image is huge - I haven't the time to resize etc.  It is readable though, I guess that is what matters.....

Nice work!

A nice visual reference of the cards.

Would you like to add a section for the Mage cards and their ability cards?  That would be useful too.

my greatest hope is for a Lich as a playable mage. They would be undead but have other advantages.

I'm not sure how much difference there could be between the current Necromancer and a Lich mage. I like the idea, the Lich could have an exclusive piece of phylactery equipment which, if destroyed, could have devastating effect on the mages exclusive abilities. That's a slightly negative point.

The Lich could control lots of undead minions, as the Necromancer potentially does. A twist could be some kind of mind control link between the Lich and his minions using a combination of the Mind and Dark schools.

Thanks guys (I got one in my 3rd edition core set).  Clear clarification from Laddinfance.

In a couple of days I will hopefully have my Mage Wars Arena core set!!  It's additional to all of the expansions (minus spell tomes) and a 3rd edition core set, so that will be cool.  I'm looking forward to some more extensive spell book builds with the additional cards.  I still wont have as many [mwcard=MW1J01] Rajan's Fury[/mwcard]'s as Coshade though ha ha!

Thanks Boocheck. Are there any 4th edition owners who can also confirm?

Hello.

Can anybody confirm whether [mwcard=MW1E06]Circle of Lightning[/mwcard] is actually in the Mage Wars Arena Core Set please?  Thanks.

There are a couple of photo's on the Mage Wars Facebook page from the 29th May.  Other than that, I'm not sure if there is anything official.  Chris would be the guy to ask for anything like that.

I was wondering whether Chris will post a final standings table or report of the tournament. Chris?

Well predicted ben_tyrer, and congratulations on the third place!

I was also a Wizard at the tournament (Adam - Air Wizard).  I had the pleasure of a modified loss to JC, an Earth Wizard, in the first round and gave him a bit of trouble by being a slippery customer.  He couldn't pin me down, but managed to get enough damage on me to get the modified win.  It was my first ever competitive game and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I also picked up some good techniques from JC including how important and effective it is to guard with a [mwcard=MWSTX1CKC08]Gargoyle Sentry[/mwcard] and effective placement and use of the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKJ02]Wizard's Tower[/mwcard].  He had it right in front of my [mwcard=MW1J07]Gate to Voltari[/mwcard] and blitzed my creatures with [mwcard=MW1A09]Jet Stream[/mwcard] as soon as they were cast adding a wall bash to each attack.

My second round was, again, a modified loss to Jonathan who was a Fire Wizard.  He effectively ruined me with a suppression game.  I had heard of a suppression Wizard but, due to a lack of experience playing other players, I did not see it coming.  When I asked Jonathan whether it went how he had planned, he replied in the affirmative.  I was lucky to last for the modified loss.  A [mwcard=MW1I17]Minor Heal[/mwcard] saved me from annihilation in the final round of the game - [mwcard=MW1I12]Force Push[/mwcard]ed through a [mwcard=MW1W04]Wall of Thorns[/mwcard].  Again, a lot was learned.

I won my final round with a modified win against Justin (I think that was his name), a Necromancer.  I played a slightly different game to the first two as he was quite aggressive early on impregnating my Mage with an Ichthellid Larva.  I used a couple of [mwcard=MWSTX1CKC08]Gargoyle Sentry[/mwcard]'s and a [mwcard=MW1C05]Blue Gremlin[/mwcard] to inflict some damage before they all succumbed to a combo of [mwcard=DNC21]Thornlasher[/mwcard]s and a well placed [mwcard=MW1J18]Poison Gas Cloud[/mwcard].  In the second to last round of the match, I threw down [mwcard=MW1J19]Deathlock[/mwcard] after a [mwcard=MW1I17]Minor Heal[/mwcard] which proved enough to win by a modified win.  I was unlucky on my final attack, requiring 2 damage to kill the Necromancer and only getting a 1 critical.  Maybe next time!

As I said, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and provided me with a chance to play other mages and learn a lot of new techniques and styles of play.  If anybody is undecided about entering a tournament for fear of loss, I would encourage you to just have a go and enjoy the experience.  You will certainly learn something and become more confident for your next game/s.

I finished fourth overall which I was really pleased with.  I was hoping to not finish with zero points so was fourth was brilliant!  Thanks too, to all of the competitors.  Everybody was friendly and helpful and it was a really nice atmosphere.

I will certainly look out for your upcoming event ben_tyrer.  If all is well, maybe I could see you in the arena next time!!
