Spells / Re: Buffs and Counters to Killer Bees
« on: October 17, 2018, 04:44:53 PM »
I point out the text on Enchantment Transfusion states that enchantments can only be moved to a legal target (so you can’t shift Plagued onto Malacoda or Eagle Wings on a Skeletal Knight). Since Swarms are not a legal target for any spell that does not specificly target Swarms, this should prevent that particular exploit.

I'm fairly certain that RAW this is incorrect.  The Swarm trait prevents SPELLS from targeting Swarms.  Once the Enchantment has been successfully cast it becomes an OBJECT.  The Swarm trait does NOT prevent OBJECTS from targeting Swarms.  I am very happy to be wrong on this one, but it seems to be the correct way things interact.  For instance, if Objects are also Spells that would prevent everything from targeting swarms...including Creatures! The only way to deal with Swarms would then be with your Mage's personal attack (Mages are never spells) or with Attack Spells.  This seems to be a clearly erroneous interpretation of the rules.  Objects do not equal Spells is the only way I see the rules actually working here.

Confirm with Zuberi. The Freeze condition token is misprinted. The Rulebook has the complete rules for Freeze included just as quoted in the original post.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: PALadin v1

Something I've been meaning to experiment with is casting a buddy early and then, when you get close, drop the banner and spawn two ranged fire support units. Ideally, Artemis and a Royal Archer, but could also be two Temple Sharpshooters.  Drop a hill under the fight and the sharpshooters can do some serious damage.

Rules Discussion / Re: hunting bow & colosssal crab
« on: October 01, 2018, 08:24:31 AM »
So is this the situation you're setting up?:

Colossal Crab has already grappled something and done 2 damage during upkeep. The crab then proceeds to attack the creature it has grabbed and does no damage.

And the question is does this activate Hunting Bow?

I actually think that in this situation Hunting Bow would trigger.  I would normally say that the attack has to do damage since that's what "attack and damage" usually means, but I'm fairly certain it doesn't necessitate that the particular attack has to have done damage as long as the creature has both attacked and done damage over the course of the round. An interesting question. I'd love to hear some other thoughts on this.

If the situation your talking about is that the crab attacks, does no damage but still grapples the target then you haven't fulfilled the damage requirement yet and the bow would not get the triggered effect.

Custom Cards / Re: Positioning spells for 2x3 Academy
« on: September 19, 2018, 09:40:28 AM »
I think one of the main issues you're going to have to deal with in a 2x3 arena of academy power levels is that a Bash attack of 3 dice is significantly superior (AND FREE!) to most of the academy creatures.  It would be wind spell vs wind spell forever.
In that case, why not just make a ruling that there's no bash attacks? One could argue that academy level push effects are less forceful than arena push effects, so they don't cause bashing. I mean really, can you imagine being bashed by a spell called "Force nudge"?

Also, the news everyone has been waiting for.  Coshade and I fought Two Domination matches with our Necromancer - Bloodwave team.  Both were incredibly fun!

We are now 3-0 for Team Domination games.  Any challengers?  8)

Events / Re: Gen Con 2018
« on: September 06, 2018, 09:16:29 PM »
Greetings! At long last we have some pictures and a (roughly remembered) synopsis of the GenCon 2018 tournament!
As has been previously stated, there were 15 competitors hailing from St. Louis to Charlotte in the United States and a crew that made it all the way from Canada!
There was so much to see on the first day that everything is a glorious blur of dice and markers.  At the end of the first day we had one player at 4-0 and 4 players at 3-1.
It was determined that VictorE and Arthur could duke it out for the final spot in the top 4. Arthur graciously chose to forego the fight and let VictorE advance to the final 4.

Pictured here is the giving of Arthur’s Sportsmanship Award for his sacrifice. He played a tough Necromancer that caused a lot of pain to his opponents.

THE TOP 4

Semi-finals
Table 1: VictorE (Wizard) vs Coshade (Priestess)
Coshade and VictorE both jumped into their economy game with Cassiel and Temple of Asyra arrayed against several channeling increases.  As the Disciples of Radiance hit the field VictorE shut it completely down with a well-timed Mordok’s Obelisk and an Essence Drain.  This is the first time Coshade has had to shift to plan B and he answers by advancing with a Knight of Westlock and supporting both Knight and Priestess with Cassiel.  VictorE begins turning the Arena into a Tesla Cage by flinging Bolt after Bolt of empowered lightning at Coshade.  Through all the damage, the stuns fail to come and Cassiel eventually sustains the Priestess to victory. A very enjoyable match to watch!

Table 2: Millie (Necromancer) vs Farkas (Straywood)
I was not the judge watching this match, however, I do know that it was incredibly hard fought on both sides and this was the nail-biter of the top 4. A very high amount of concentration and tenacity exhibited by both players. Ultimately Farkas emerged victorious and I believe it had to do with Pet falcons and a very irritating Taunting Ferret.

Finals
Table 1: VictorE (Wizard) vs  Millie (Necromancer)

At the time of the clash an Eternal Brute, a Skeletal Archer and a Skeletal Knight are staring back at a Gorgon Archer and a Devouring Jelly. Twin Teleport Wands translocate things around the arena, the dice fly, the curses stack up and the Wizard eventually falls to the combined might of Brute and Boulder.

Table 2: Farkas (Straywood) vs  Coshade (Priestess)

The final match for 1st place is an epic rematch. In the swiss rounds, Coshade eked out a victory vs Farkas with a critical cleric roll having only 1 health left on his Priestess. Now the final game was for all the proverbial marbles and neither player was going to back down. Birds clashed with laser clerics, the Beastmaster hid in the Elephant Grass, but eventually, Divine Asyra Intervenes and the Priestess Purifies the Beastmaster from the Arena with the help of her Radiant Disciples.
Trophies are given, hands are shaken, and pictures taken!

VictorE from Champaign, IL Congrats on 4th!

Millie taking home the 3rd place trophy for Charlotte, NC!

Justin triple threat!

We’ve learned that Champaign is a force to be reckoned with! Together with Charlotte and St. Louis they are gunning for gold in 2019.
See you all again for another tournament next year!

Rules Discussion / Re: obscure and vines
« on: August 23, 2018, 05:49:23 PM »
I'd really like to hear what spell you are using to give the best answer here. You're talking about two different things that you are targeting. You cannot target the necromancer because of obscured. You can target the vine because it is not obscured. If you are using the vine as the source of your spell then obscured is not your problem as the vine is within one range. However, as Karhaz said, you do have to obey the rules and restrictions involved with using the vine as your source.

In short, yes...Soon(tm)

General Discussion / Re: Gen Con Academy pre releases
« on: August 23, 2018, 10:47:44 AM »
Wychwood Faerie is not strictly speaking a familiar. It's more of a discount ring on a creature's body. I highly doubt we will ever see proper familiars in academy. Also, Druid is the mage with the most ability to spawn of any mage in the game. I really don't see the need for yet another way for a Druid to get a discount or a free action.

Cant be that alone puddin.

Is it for Living it doesn’t matter?

No, Living it matters a ton.  You can Heal damage.  You can't Heal lost life.  For Non-living you can't heal them anyway so it doesn't matter if it's damage or lost life.

Pretty sure melting is just another way of implementing dissipate.
