Mage Wars 2022 Online Tournament!
Tournament Structure and Outline

  • This tournament will be played in 2 stages. The first being a round robin in smaller groups. The top 2 of each group will advance to the single elimination stage. There will be a semi finals match, and the winners of those will advance to the finals for taking first place. There will also be a third place match for the losers of the semi finals.
  • If you would like to enter the tournament, email us at Arcaneduels@gmail.com. Or you can sign up on Challonge at Challonge.com/MW2022
  • In order to enter, you must commit to playing one mage wars game per week. Failure to do so will result in a loss for that week. Repeated games missed will result in disqualification
  • The start date for this tournament is December 18th.

The weekly schedule will be as follows:

On Challonge your matchups are announced. Feel free to play any matches that you have currently assigned too.

Competitors have from the matchup announcement on Sunday until 2359 Central US time Saturday to get their matches played and the results emailed to arcaneduels@gmail.com or posted on the discord.
*You can email the result in a text format, but we also want the OCTGN inherent replay files for possible later casting.

Ideally, there will be a featured match up each week. We would love to cast your replay files.  We do not guarantee your match will be casted, but will try our best!

Rules
  • If one party has been unresponsive in scheduling a match, they will forfeit the match and tournament
  • If attempts have been made by both parties to schedule a match and it just doesn't line up by the end of the week, let Arcane Duels know and we will try to help on a case by case basis (typically by having the match scheduled for the following week with those competitors being required to play 2 matches during the next week). In some cases both players will be disqualified.
  • If neither player has attempted to schedule, both will be given a loss
  • If required, a judge makes the final call on a rule. Any argumentative discussion that takes an excessive amount of time will receive a warning. If it continues that player will be disqualified.
  • If a player gets disconnected and dropped during a tournament match it will be considered a loss for that player
  • All cards released on OCTGN are legal to use. All promotional cards available on OCTGN are also legal. If there are playtesting cards that update currently existing cards, you must use the newest version. For example you must use the Wizard that has Arcane Zap for 2 mana instead of the older version.

  • Players will build a spellbook with the standard amount of spellbook points and restrictions. They may change mages or books between games if they wish.
  • Any promotional cards that have been officially released in a set will be considered to read as the official released in a set version

Restrictions And/Or Clarifications

Other info

Matches must allow official commentators and judges in as spectators. Non-Official Tournament spectators are not allowed to spectate a game unless both players agree to it. Some games will be streamed live, and may be posted on youtube for all Mage Wars fans to view.

Logistics
ALL coordination is suggested to be done through email. We also have been accepting Discord messages as well. Make sure to include Arcane Duels in your message so we can easily track match up coordination (everyone should CC arcaneduels@gmail.com or Coshade when figuring out when you can play your match). This helps us see if someone has been unresponsive and can take appropriate action

General Discussion / Updated Cards 2/17/22
« on: February 17, 2022, 02:29:22 PM »
Hello!

Just wanted to make an announcement about the latest OCTGN update! The Dropbox has been updated with the current image pack.

Changelog 2/17
Temporal Spellcasting
You may only use Temporal Spellcasting on level 1 Attack spells and incantations
Clarification - You reveal the spell to have its effect on whatever it is attached to (zone, creature etc.)
Added a destruction effect when revealing a spell

Temporal Aid
The rulebook will specify that movement actions are not effected by this spell.

Mind Leech
Clarifying what happens when attached to a creature
Changed effect to encourage attaching to creatures. Now when you are attached to a creature, you stun instead of daze.

Leviathan
This creature’s attack is now a full action instead of quick.
Stance
All stances now have a target bar of “Monk Creature”

Temple of Time
You must now choose between either adding a Dissipate or removing 2 damage from Melting objects.
You can now only target Non-Epic Dissipate objects
This card is now called Sistarran Temple

Tiger Stance
A third stance has been added for Monk creatures. Enjoy!

Dojo
-Removed Spellbind Keyword
-Clarified how binding spells function

Cobra Stance
When this stance is revealed, it now destroys cards/tokens that cannot target Uncontainable creatures.

Goals - Currently we hoping to announce a tournament for sometime Mid-March. We will be trying to do any updates needed to finalize the set until then.

    General Discussion / Playtesting Update!
    « on: March 13, 2021, 02:44:50 PM »
We have updated the cards on the Dropbox folder. Here is a breakdown of the changes.
Tar Trap - Small rework (notable changes below)
    Removed Epic Trait
You can now take non-spell actions
Added the Flame +1 trait and removed Flame adding an extra die

    Temple of Peace
Raised cost from 6 to 7
Changes Aegis 2 to Aegis +1

    Kraven, Werewolf Slave
    Removed Warlock Only
    Added Regenerate 1

You can also view these and previous change logs in the Dropbox folder. From now on we will be doing a master change log document instead of individual ones.

Shark will also be updating the images on OCTGN to reflect these changes. Also I know he has been working to clear up some automation issues. If you find more issues with OCTGN please report them to the OCTGN-issues section of the Discord. Shark will make an announcement when the images are updated.

Also! We've gotten a lot of misunderstandings of rule changes, new card updates, and how certain cards work. We're going to try to implement new ways to get changes out to you. Our goal is that if you are familiar with the rule book (codex and rules changes section) and the cards as they currently are, you will only have to review the change log document to know what is updated.
Thursday 3/18 at 9:15 EST We will be doing a Dev Diary at www.Twitch.tv/coshade1 - We will review every card as it is at the time, and every rule change. We're hoping to catch more people that want to participate in play testing to have good information on where the set is at.

I just wanted to thank everyone that is sending us replays and giving us feedback. Our goal is to make this the best set we can possibly make it, and we appreciate taking a closer look at cards every chance we can get.

General Discussion / Create a Card - Final Vote!
    « on: July 15, 2020, 05:37:22 PM »
    Hello everyone!

We are on our final vote for two new creature cards! There have been a ton of ideas thrown around so I thought I would gather them up. We'll be leaving the polls open for 2 weeks, then go straight to playtesting.  We are looking for names and quotes so feel free to share them here or email us at Arcaneduels@gmail.com. Here are some thoughts on the two creatures below.

Holy Or Dark Level 5 Creature! The idea behind this card is that it joined the side of demons. Both the Dark and Holy side can take this creature since it has been on both sides.

Card 1 - Pretty basic concept here. Gate to Hell is a very unused card so hopefully this one makes it more viable. I would vote for this if you plan on taking Gate to Hell. I'm unsure if Holy has many uses for it though.

Card 2 - This helps both the Priest and the Adramelech Warlock a lot. Not removing burns can be very powerful with cards like Magma Golem. It might also make Combustion more of an option.

Card 3 - A solid card, Adramelech Warlock probably benefits the most because setting things on fire and demon creatures combo very well with this.

Card 4 - This gives more of a stronger solo creature card. It works well with both sides in it's own way.

War Level 4 - There have been a few ideas!
Card 1 is designed to be a tough of nails, slow advance creature. it's not supposed to be easy but also does not have a lot of damage in one action, but can produce a lot in a melee attacking round.

Card 2 is a great Warlord card. We are a bit worried that formations may make this card too strong as is, but it uses his giant shield concept to help advance troops.

Card 3 is similar ideas to card 1. It's less straight forward, but great for attacking into guards. It does not have the Vigilante trait so that may cause problems. If you do succeed in the defense (or use defensive enchantments) you still gain the guard marker. It also goes well with cards like Temple of Dawnbreaker.

Card 4 is more of a leadership card. It is designed to be heroric in that it can help friendly soldiers retreat or advance without worry of enemies around it.

Keep in mind if any of these cards appear overpowered, we will be balancing them down stats wise during playtesting. When you cast your vote, the overall concept/Traits will be preserved, but if you see high stats and decide the power card is just better, it will probably be nerfed to be balanced out.

General Discussion / Card Contest - Week 3

    Hello Everyone!

This is going into week 3 of the voting process for all of us making a card together. For this week we are going to decide on the level for both cards. I know a lot of people have given their opinion on the ability for the cards, and I am collecting all of that data for later decisions, but some of these will need the creature to be a pretty high level to accomplish. So keep in mind that the vision you see for strength on these cards should reflect in the level you vote for.

General Discussion / Creating Cards - Week 2

    Hello,

It looks like we have two new creatures in the arena! For this week we will be voting to decide what school or schools these cards belong to. If more than half of the total votes say this should be dual, then we will have a second vote next week to determine the second school. Happy voting!

Just to clarify if you think one or both of these cards belong to multiple schools, click the school you want this week and choose the OR option. If we get enough votes on the OR option we can have a second school chosen for that card next week.
