For any Belgians, Dutch, Germans or anyone else in Europe who would like to come along, there is the game fair this coming weekend, 8 and 9 November in Eindhoven.  Although there is no official Mage Wars event or stand, we can meet up to chat, play, discuss or plan.

Events / Essen and Mage Wars
« on: October 21, 2014, 07:34:01 AM »
Following the hype in America for Origins and Gencon there were a number of reactions from people hoping that Arcane Wonders would show a presence at Essen this year.

Sadly that was not directly so, this was also given in some of the reactions that they were not planning to.

Nevertheless, Mage Wars was represented by their distributor in the form of Pegusus, who had an enormous stand in Hall 3 demoing a number of games including Mage Wars but only in German.

This is where it stopped though and seems a great shame that the momentum for this still reasonably fresh game is not being perpetuated in Europe.  It seems to me that next year will be Arcane Wonders last chance before they miss the boat on the European and world markets by representing themselves in Essen.

It would be a shame if this great game became a bastion of the American continent and but a sideshow or missed opportunity for the rest of the world.  It seems to me that the Ambassador programme is a great base to start a presence here in Europe at Essen 2015.  Perhaps if just one of the crew appeared it would help with the organisation and experience of the great American conventions to push Mage Wars not just for America but for the rest of the world.

Before the rest of the world forgets it and moves onto the multitude of other games that focus on everybody.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Review of Forged in Flame
« on: July 29, 2014, 02:25:26 PM »
So, the expansion has been in America for a while now and as of this week in The Netherlands.  Was wondering what peoples idea of the expansion has been.   Must have been some games and impressions in combos and evolution of spellbooks and mages.

Generally do you think it is positive, missing some parts,  hinting of things to come or delivering just what you wanted?

Events / Last mage standing
« on: July 02, 2014, 12:54:00 PM »
So, once we have caught up with the organized play I have an idea for the following competition,

Last Mage Standing.

Everyone gets drawn to play another,  that is normal but if you lose, you cannot use that type of mage again.

This is of course good for the people who own more mages, but it is also good for the shop in supplying Arcane Wonders product.  Also to perhaps get people to expand their stocks.

Of course anyone with the basic four mages has four chances to win and if they keep winning may not need to use all of them.

Has anyone tried this out before?

Events / Arnhems battle results,
« on: June 18, 2014, 07:21:59 AM »

Sunday 15 June saw the battle of mages in Arnhem,  here are the results.

Roll of Battle, round three.

Paul:     Priestess
Jeroen:    Priestess
Franke:    Earth Wizard
Peter:       Earth Wizard
Wouter:   Fire Wizard
David:       Warlord
Ellen:         Beastmaster
Flemming: Druid

Battle one.Paul vs Flemming.  In a match up of the ladies, the arena quickly turned into a park of vines and trees.  This hindered the trolls that appeared to help asyra .  Slogging through trees, walls of thorns and thornlashers, the priestess could not deal enough damage to the enemy druid, who ran like the wind to seal a victory.  Damaged more then the druid the priestess conceeded at the time limit.

Ellens beastmaster faced Jeroens Priestess.  Ellen the beastmaster started off by summoning strong creatures with her lair while Jeroen the priestess put up defence and collected mana (He went up to 52 mana at some point!). Ellen attacked him with everything she got but Jeroen was afraid and constantly kept on teleporting away from her. As a result of that, Ellen tangelewinded him and Nullified his teleportation. Then she kept on smacking him until the time went out.
In the end of the game Ellen only had one damage while Jeroen had a total of 24 damage.

Davids warlord turned up to show what he could do to Peters Earth Wizard.  The warlord started making barracks and outposts to get much mana to summon creatures.  The wizard brought his channeling up with mana crystals, a battle forge, a wizard tower and his huginn.  Surprisingly for the wizard his familiar got killed almost immediately.  This put him on defense.  The warlord made lots of soldiers and pressured the mage by killing his channeling as the wizard had too much armor, ( 3 and shield and a suppression cloak).  The wizard made sure the warlord had more trouble hurting him with a veteran belt and regrowth.  As the time was running out the wizard pulled out a trick damaging the mage to steal the victory.  10 damage to 7.

The last match up is an Earth Wizard vs Wouters Fire Wizard.  Elemental fury of fireballs, rocks, wands and burning.  As it happened, earth was more powerful than fire and the earth wizard took the win.

General Discussion / Dutch dueling mages results
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:10:48 AM »
So In Arnhem, The Netherlands,  four rounds have been completed.  The score is 3 - 1 to Wout.  two very close games that came right down to the last play, which could have gone either way.  Until now,
the priestess has defeated the beastmaster,
the wizard was taken down by the warlock.
The wizard narrowly  finished off the beastmaster
the warlock continued his victories by destroying the priestess,

next week the duels continue with

Priestess vs wizard
Beastmaster vs warlock

Hopefully two victories to me.

This round will be finished off with a team battle of two mages vs two mages

General Discussion / Incorrect spell lists
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:04:12 AM »
Wow, with the new feature, making spell lists are much easier, better once the bugs are worked out.

Another question.  Has anyone noticed that the expanded official legal spell lists in the core book are not legal?  Each mage has 120 spell points and none of the four lists meet that.

Perhaps it has been commented on in the forum, but I have not found it yet.
