Rules Discussion / Passage attacks questions
« on: October 12, 2019, 03:55:36 PM »
Quick questions on walls with passage attacks:

1) In general, movement through any wall with passage attacks always costs a full movement, correct?

2) I understand that a Necromancer (or other poison immune creature) moving through a Poison Gas wall is immune from the attack... but do these creatures have to use a full action to pass through it (being immune)? I don't know of any exception, but it makes sense to me that there should be one.

3) One other case: level 1 creatures and the wall of thorns... does that require a full action? Are animals special cases with this wall?

Thanks!

Mages / Re: flipping the channeling paradigm
« on: October 06, 2019, 06:15:25 PM »
I believe, as has been pointed out in a number of other threads, that it is more player ability that will determine a winner, rather than the "tier" of the mage used. For example, I know my usual opponent has often thought of a dozen things during our games that never occurred to me, knows how to use spells better, knows how to build better books... such that if I win, usually it is either that I luck into pulling the right spell at the right time, or that he is playing a non-competitive build against the best that I can create.

What you would need to do would be to play the same person(s) with all of the mages without messing with channeling, and then playing all of those same person(s) with the same mages against the same mages with changes in channeling... and then a number of times each to get rid of statistical deviation... it would potentially take years to test these changes.

Mages / Re: flipping the channeling paradigm

I would take issue with this on a thematic basis. Two specifics: I can't see a Wizard having less innate channeling than any other mage, and neither warlord should channel more than any other mage due to their lack of training / affinity / whatever with the arcane arts.

Also, on a comfort level... as for me, a change in channeling or starting mana of any mage that I play would require me to rethink openings and potentially redesign books... something that I don't want to have to do... especially if it "feels" wrong that the mage is being forced to channel something other than what it "should."

League / Tournament Play / Re: Indianapolis Mages Wanted

Are these changes in effect for the entire weekend, or are these just tournament rules. I will only be playing casually on Friday, so just need to know if I should replace the Pillar in some of my books.

You might want to specify a year (at least) for those tournaments which does not include such in their name. Either that, or the date of the event for all tournaments. You also might want to make a note of what qualifies a tournament to be eligible for this thread. Just thinking....

When you say the following:

Swarm (Please remember all non-mage objects are also spells)
Creatures with the Swarm trait cannot be targeted by non-attack actions or spells that do not specifically target Swarm creatures.

Does this mean that Flying Creatures can not attack a Swarm Creature? You emphasize that all non-mage objects (the flying creature) is a spell, and that spells can not target them... and I think you have to target something to attack it....

Also, when you say (again about Swarms):

Additionally, they are immune to ... life gain that does not target swarms.

Does this mean that they do not benefit from Innate Life, such as from an Etherian Lifetree?

I'm not entering... just curious. (I don't play on OCTGN, I don't use Promos at all, and I sometimes have disconnection issues at home.)

Custom Cards / Re: Suggestion - New Terrain - Mana Wastes

I was thinking Arcane, in line with Mana Siphon... Earth already has a good one, but I can see your point also.

Custom Cards / Suggestion - New Terrain - Mana Wastes

Mana Wastes
Conjuration - Terrain
Mana
Arcane level 1 or Dark level 1
Mana cost 5 (based on Mana Shard cost, increased due to Terrain type and can impact multiple objects)
Objects that channel in this zone gain Channeling -1

I don't think this would be popular as lowered Channeling would generally tend to slow the game down, but could help with a Mana denial strategy (which needs to be a valid strategy IMO), and gives the Wizard an in-school terrain.

You might want to put in something about Freezes and Burns cancelling before Freeze damage.

I will try to make it.

I just put in for PTO for Friday

I guess I'm mostly curious about whether there is enough mana available to do what you want it to do. Please do let us know how it plays out.

43
Just another thing to have to house rule, I guess.

Is it possible to believe that you apply one Freeze before the other... such that there would be at one time two burns but only one freeze... and thus have the one freeze match off against a burn?

You still have the same issue though with a creature two away from death and a burn when a freeze lands though.
