I agree with the OCTGN calculations.

Oboko is Holy, level 1 and Mind, level 2.

So Paladin with training in Holy Creatures only pays single sbp cost for Holy creatures but pays double or triple costs for other schools per the training rules. So Holy = 1x1 + Mind = 2x2 for total 5 sbp. Holy Creature training only allows all levels of Holy school on a Creature spell to count as single cost for spellbook point calculations. It does not impact other school training calculations. For the Mind part of this spell you need to use the regular training rules. If Holy was a sub-type of Oboko, then your calculation would be correct. For an example of this type of training calculation consider Pirate creatures with the Siren's training.

So Forcemaster with training in Mind School and Weakness in all Non-Mind School creature spells pays single sbp for Mind and double or triple for other schools depending on if the Mind school is part of the creature. So in this case Mind = 2x1 + Holy = 1x2 for total 4 sbp

Jesus! People relax, OP wasn't asking for a complete overhaul of Mage Wars and reprinting the card: if he wants to house-rule the card to be given the "undead" subtype then let him do it.

Krishna! Relax, the OP didn't even state what his purpose for asking was. Once he indicates whether he is concerned with tournament play or casual play, we may have a better idea what kind of answer he needs.
Here is the stated purpose of the OP.

"Before I post some points about the topic I want to keep it as a simple question and let others weigh in first."

The conversation is at the stage of others weighing in with their perspective on the stated question.

I don't think anybody here expects a formal reprint with official errata to change some Spirit creature subtypes to/from "undead". I think it's more a thematic question of "What does it mean to be 'undead' in the Mage Wars universe?"

Illusions, elemental spirits (like Whirling Spirit), the Imperial Stalker, etc, would seem to be non-living incorporeal  (or not actually incorporeal, in the case of Academy illusions) creatures that were never Living. Is "undead" simply a non-living creature that was at one previous time living? If so, then Grey Wraith would likely qualify, as do the other new Spirit "undead" creatures. Or does "undead" require being a corporeal construct of the remains of formerly living creatures, like a zombie, mummy or skeleton, in which case the Grey Wraith would not qualify (it can effectively walk through walls after all), although then it would stand to reason that the new nonliving Spirits ought not to be "undead" either - e.g. a creature would be disqualified from being "undead" if it is incorporeal.
Good questions. Why don't we consider a two by four table of possibilities. The two rows would be Corporeal and Non-Corporeal. The four columns would be Living - NonLiving - Dead - Undead. The intersections of these 'dimensions of creature forms' would be the set of possibilities in the Mage Wars Universe.

I am fine with the current distinction.

I think of the terms 'undead' and 'spirit' as two different types of sub-traits. 'Undead' is assigned when a creature is magically manipulated after death. i.e. a creature must have already been dead before it can become 'undead'. While a 'spirit' can exist in either living, non-living or undead form.

So each term is describing a distinct point of a creature's possible existence along some larger life & death cycle. So, using this logic we would see that all undead creatures should also be considered non-living but it is possible to have a creature who exists in a non-living form (and thus not affected by living forms of magic) but who are not undead in nature.

Rules Discussion / Re: Elementalist Glyph Clarification

Boosting Attacks
Fire and Air Glyph both boost attacks, but to what extend? Since it is not Ranged+X, can I use Fire Glyph on zone attacks like Voltaic Discharge to roll 2 extra dice against all creatures in zone? Or will it only work against one? Or not at all?

What of sweeping and double strike attacks?
In Arena those will boost only single attack of an attack action. Academy doesn't make distinction between attack and attack action, but definition of Doublestrike and Sweeping mention second attack. So it's separate attack and doesn't benefit from glyphs used on the first attack IMO.
Zone attacks aren't precise in their definition. Rules doesn't explicitly say if it's single attack with multiple rolls or multiple separate attacks.
Quote
These spells will attack every creature in the play area (and every conjuration in future expansions),  including  yours!  Roll  for  each  object separately, one at a time, in any order you wish.
In Arena, spell effects that are worded as "attack rolls X additional dice" would apply to zone attacks. If the effect is worded as "attack gains Range +X" then these would not apply to zone attacks. The example I am most familiar with is the Siren has an effect (I don't recall the spell or ability) that increases the number of dice on the Tsunami attack spell. This type of interaction with a Zone Attack is pretty rare in Arena.

no,

We are few players in france ^^ ,  :P
I misread your question.

I checked the US card list and it has two Soul Harvest spells listed also. This is a mistake in the card list.

37
why there are two same epic spells in the cards's list of the necromancer? (Soul Harvest )
 :o :o :o
So you can play a mirror match???

It might be helpful for getting match ups created.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: The Brutemaster
« on: April 19, 2019, 06:49:32 AM »
I mention it because you stated in an earlier post that you are keeping your Forcemaster away from the action and using Mind's Eye. This suggested that you might be using your Thoughtspore actions and Mind's Eye in an aggressive manner but were running short of mana to make this effective. The Meditation Amulet might help if that is the case.

Re: Mana Shortage

Consider Psi Orb along with Moonglow Amulet or Mediation Amulet.

Re: Lack of Closing Attack Spell

Consider another Force Hammer and swapping out of school spells for similar in school Attack spells from the Mind school. Especially if you plan to use Attack spells with your Thoughtspores. It seems you need to manage your mana in bursts for maximum effective so having a way to save mana for a few turns and then unleash a focused combination of attacks on specific targets would make the most sense.

Events / Mage Wars at WBC 2019
« on: March 31, 2019, 10:23:06 AM »
The Event form is submitted and just waiting for the scheduled dates to be confirmed.

Here is the link to learn more about the World Boardgaming Championships https://www.boardgamers.org/wbcindex.html happening July 20-28 at Sevens Springs Resort in the lovely highlands of Pennsylvania.

This years event will feature all Arena mages competing using any Arena expansion spells or mages. Academy spells and promo cards are not allowed for the tournament event but open gaming is available for the entire 9-days of the convention.

This event has no limit on the number of players who can compete, so this is a great opportunity to assemble the world's best arena players for head to head competition. The format is 4-rounds over two days which allows opportunity to play or compete in other games you might enjoy at the convention.

General Discussion / Re: Hired Bodygurd

A soldier creature with only 1 damage dice realy? I'm disappointed.

If it were at least a Goblin or Snotling, but the Card shows a Human in contrast to what is on the Cards Suptyp its Soldier only.
Instead of an Short Sword he should have a Broken Short Sword.
Like the Broken Wing Angel who can't fly, the Bodyguard can't deal any real damage.

I created an Animal on this forum that would make more sense for a 2 mana cost 1 damage Novice Creature.
Well the creature's name has 'bodyguard' in it. Not 'Killer Elite'. :)

I haven't seen it yet, but perhaps it is meant for guarding rather than attack? So defense, not offense.

You may want to consider a Steep Hill to give you more of a boost on your Range Attacks. Position it in the center of the Arena and you should have good coverage of the battle field.

General Discussion / Re: It is 2019 - What do we know?
« on: February 22, 2019, 07:26:28 AM »
In 5 years time, this forum will be gone and the community will be divided into a couple of groups of 5-10 people each spread around North America and Europe. There is no future for Mage Wars.
Well Mage Wars always has a place in my game room. In fact I have an entire bookcase dedicated to it.

I plan to be at the World Boardgaming Championships again this year at the end of July running a tournament for Mage Wars Arena. The open gaming library has a copy of the game and I always find new players learning it at the convention every year.
