why use counterstrike when alpha strike is better in everyway?

i like plus range, plus to creature summon too but i think they are kind of strong

General Discussion / Re: It is 2019 - What do we know?

i think just a promo release  and a  mage vs mage would be great  no need for more variant mages, they arent that crucial

to make it only 2 releases :D

we all know it wont happen though : _)

Spells / Re: A little love for the Swamp

soo, to clear things a little in my head,

swamp is nice for being defensive, they cant attack you if they move it, BUT if they leave  it's stop affecting them and you can do two moves/attack etc. well you leave the swamp ,it kind of annoyed me at the start but it makes sense, you leave the swamp, it doesnt affect you anymore

was it different at any point of the game before?

I received Codex and Spirit Island today!
Well... I'm off for a moment... sure back for a new arena expansion... or one day, who knows...

Thank you AW and everybody on the forum for these great MW-years!

uh, how is it going with codex?  i dont think it scratches the same itches at all, it's a sum of mechanics(rts, deckbuilding, mtg)   the thing that put me off the most is most cards are carbon copies of mtg cards...

yep, mage wars has huge design space, it's a same it will remain a space by the way things look.

my opinion on academy has changed since last year, which i thought it was a waste, because they really do dig different playstyles with the mages ,even if many of the cards are bad in arena, others are great. so i started buying into it. (wont buy them twice though, that's a rip off :P )

but yeah, pretty dissapointed with how the things have turned out, since this is in my top 3 games (the other is war of the ring  ,and netrunner, which is not supported by the makers anymore (god's will.)

i do lurk, and log into the forum often, to see if anything interesting is posted, but since it's empty most of the type i dont have anything to post aswell  : )

maybe if everything goes great for the company they will restore mage wars arena to it's former glory, even for us the little niche market that exists but loves it

I don't see an end of MW Arena coming as the current card pool doesn't require new expansions in order to enjoy playing the game.

However, you might consider Incantris as another game option that fits the last two requirements on your list. It offers players a team of spell casters to use in battle and holds 2 to 4 players on a small table.

The new Thunderstone Quest game is now available and may be closer to all 4 of your requirements.

my other go to games are netrunner but i dont find anyone to play, it's awesome, try it again it's worth it

other is war of the ring, which has a same feeling

other smaller games i can think of is tash kalar

good thread, fun to read !

Eh, im not sure ,i use it for many years, probably i was an edgy teen liking the grim reaper, and just made a variant that uses strings instead, like the three moirai, atropos cutting the threads of life,so just a fuse

buut i like it since in ever get  "this username is in use" unless i have already registered and forgot about it, heh

use symbiotic orb or fumble/confusion so the stalker doesnt get damaged

General Discussion / Re: It´s 2018 -- Any news?
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:21:52 AM »
Helloooooo, we are in 2018, and today we already haven´t news about new products for mage wars during this year, we hear about 4 new mages (academy seems), but  i would like to know something more fixed, and maybe a spoiler.

Wow! They say that silence speaks volumes....

It's 2018 so no, if we rely on past information, there will be no new Arena content releasing within the next year (only the 4 new academy Mages). Unfortunate, but not surprising; don't expect anything to be how it used to be  :-\

Seriously, until by some miracle we get new information, I suggest that you either play with others on OCTGN or play something else. You shouldn't have to die of boredom due to lack of content on the game's part

i think you're exaggarating, there is so much content, every mage has many playstyles, i havent mastered any of them yet. (im a new player compared to most ) over 3-4 for each mage, and there are 10 mages without the variants?

also the matches arent usually the same even if you play vs the same opponent and the same mage..
maybe if you play 2-3 matches every day, but most people whine that they dont play enough mage wars ;p

i cant find how anyone can die of boredom in a game like this.   Sure, we want more arena content, but when it's there we will want more aswell, it will never end! i prefer slow releases, so i have time to buy, and play them to the fullest,(not every month release like other card games, getting the pressure to buy new content or fall behind) i dont think you should compare mage wars to them, there is academy content released, at the start i frowned upon it aswell.  yeah there are many cards that dont have any use in arena, BUT there are also many that open up new playstyles and directions, those are welcome! my only issue is that you have to buy 2 copies to get a playset, this is a huge minus for me. so academy is welcome since it gives new tools and playstyles, with a mini game included ;P

other than that, i also prefer slow releases because that means we get tones of playtasting and balancing for the new mages/cards!

Spells / Re: Samara Tree (and seedling pod) thoughts
« on: March 01, 2018, 01:19:44 PM »
I actually tried samara  vs an inexpierienced friend (well i am one too ) and i really like it, the mana advantage and action saving was great

the bad things were   ,easy to kill the pods, and not possible to use them in non deployment phase (cast creatures mostly at start of turn, having them vulnerable for an entire turn) , slow and commiting

good things, many summons in a turn, huge mana advantage , i liked using the pod , destroying it and putting another one in it's place in the same deployment face, value  :P,the zone restriction isnt that must of a drawback in the end

i liked it :)

You could also quick cast a block or nullify onto the stalker after it's used its attack.

why noone commented on this, i saw this, saw stalker in a new way, wow it wont get attacked if i cast block all the time,  and then, boom, he is incoporeal, you cant cast block on it..

im sad again.

are these worth running as a forcemaster? i just found out that i own one copy of each (got x1 old core )
actually i just started playing as one yesterday, and i dont really know how to go for my defenses... many defense rolls? should i just stack up armor(add gloves/boots for armor)? i already run forge for galvitar/rings/one chest piece

maybe buckler too?

just enchantments like block  /etc?  im lost xD

Rules Discussion / Re: Armory and Royal Armorer
« on: February 12, 2018, 05:53:04 AM »
Just want to check my understanding here.

the Royal Armourer gives a +1 Armour token to a soldier that does not already have one, while the Armory just gives +1 Armour.

The Armoury’s power will not interfere with the Armourer’s power, correct?

A Vet token gives +1 melee and +1 armour. Does that count as an Armour +1 token for the purpose of the Armourer? I assume it is something different again.

armory doesn't give tokens, it's an effect that is active as long as armory remains, like warlord's orders give +1 armor while guarding, until end of turn, the token is something more permanent
